Early life and education

Helen was raised alongside her sister, Katie Baxendale in Shenstone, Staffordshire by their father who was a theatre actor, and their mother who was teaching at a local high school. Helen grew up wanting to become a ballet dancer, and studied at King Edward VI School, Lichfield. She continued her education at the Elmhurst School for Dance, where she was focused on improving her ballet skills but after launching her career as an actress at the age of 17, she quit dance and transferred to Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. She then joined the Glasgow Citizen’s Theatre in 1992, and was with them until 1995.

Roles in movies

Helen made many uncredited appearances in movie and TV series before she made her debut credited film appearance in “The Marshal” in 1993, followed by her portrayal of the lead character in the short movie “Euphoric Scale”. In 1995, she played Hilary in the short movie “Love’s Lost Hour”, followed by her role in “Crossing the Floor” in 1996.

In the same year, she starred as Lorna Johnston in the comedy crime film “Truth or Dare” which also starred John Hannah and Susan Lynch and which is about three university students who are pushing the lawyer Lorna Johnston into an evil world.
