Early life and education

Shay was raised in Mississauga by her parents Mark Mitchell and Precious Garcia, both of whom are working in finance. Mark was born in Scotland, while her mother is from the Philippines. Shay has a younger brother called Sean.

She became interested in dancing at the age of nine, and within a year started taking dance lessons after her family moved to West Vancouver in British Columbia. When she was 11, she attended her first modelling casting, and was signed to an international modelling agency. She studied at Rockridge Secondary School before transferring to West Vancouver Secondary School. Upon matriculation, she didn’t enroll at college but rather pursued a career in acting.

Career as an actress, model, and other ventures
