- Yann Sommer kicks off his football career as a child in the youth teams of FC Herrliberg and later of Concordia Basel after which he moved to the Basel youth setup in 2003 and signed his first professional contract with Basel in 2005. He became the first-choice goalkeeper in the under-21 squad almost immediately and was third-choice for the senior squad behind Franco Costanzo and Louis Crayton.
