Nothing is known about Zane Hijazi parents, but It’s been disclosed he has a brother and two younger sister, of whom only the youngest, Hidaya is publicly known.
Zane Hijazi hasn’t revealed details about his childhood and early education, but he attended Broward College in Florida, from where he graduated with a major in Hospitality.
His passion for the entertainment industry led him to consider enrolling into a Film School in his native Florida, however, as he moved to Los Angeles to become a comedian, he never started his studies there: ‘I couldn’t really afford to move, but I couldn’t really afford to wait, either. I could go to film school for a couple years, but we had no idea what would happen in two years.’
Vine
Zane Hijazi started his career Hijazi working at Miami’s airport as a travel director, until going full-time on the short video app Vine, posting comedy content along with his friend Heath Hussar on their shared page ‘Zane and Heath’.
The two friends’ content was mostly focused on a young audience, product of their great success at creating female alter-egos such as “Bonifa and Tay-Tay” and “Heather and Jane”. By 2016 Hijazi and his video-partner Hussar had over three million subscribers on Vine, however, the downfall of the app started, as not only Zane and Heath but also other famous creators were dissatisfied with the low income the website was providing them, which was close to zero: ‘For a long time, we had no more money to our name, and we were living paycheck to paycheck’.
Besides money, Vine wasn’t providing its creators with other important matters such as word filters, video-editing tools and other useful functions.
Although a solution to solve these issues was proposed in a press conference in Los Angeles by various famous Viners, the platform didn’t address the issue: ‘At one point, the top 20 Viners (excluding Heath and I) began boycotting Vine. They said, ‘if you don’t pay us, we won’t post anymore.’ But Vine refused, the top producers stopped posting, and the app went under – ‘Heath and I stopped posting simply because people weren’t engaged anymore.’
Looking for new opportunities and probably considering the end of Vine, Zane Hijazi started his own YouTube channel.
YouTube
Besides creating his personal YouTube channel, in 2017 Zane Hijazi and other former Vine content creators (including Heath Hussar) joined The Vlog Squad, a comedy unit led by David Dobrik: ‘In his YouTube videos, David has this quick-cut comedic style that ensures you’re entertained and laughing every 5 seconds, we couldn’t believe how quickly he was growing on YouTube without promoting anywhere else. He started a style of vlogging that never existed, and we were fortunate enough to be a part of that.’
Although The Vlog Squad content was updated exclusively on Dobrik’s channel, the association turned out to be exceptionally positive for Hijazi, as it ensured the growth of his personal channel on the video platform.
Adapting to the difference in formats between Vine and YouTube was easy for Hijazi, though he faced other difficulties along the way: ‘when we moved onto YouTube in the beginning, it was really easy to make videos because not only would we be able to do our bits long form, but it was more fun because we had time to fill up that gap.’ (…) ‘We were filming everything and we’d post twice a week. It was great, and then it got to the point where we thought, ‘OK, we ran out of ideas. We need to now start coming up with new ones,’ and that’s when it started getting really hard.’
Despite this, Hijazi is very pleased by how his journey on YouTube has been so far , as not only is he able to create content more fitting to his taste now, but also because it has allowed him to grow his presence on other social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter. To date, Hijazi has almost four million subscribers on YouTube.
Podcast
In September 2019 Zane Hijazi and his former Vine-partner Heath Hussar started their own podcast on Spotify, entitled “Zane and Heath: Unfiltered”, on which they usually share details about behind the scenes of their individual videos, The Vlog Squad and other projects.
Although the podcast isn’t exactly the same as the content they produced during the old Vine days, Zane and Heath have achieved huge success with it. In early 2020 the network company HiStudios announced the audio-show had generated revenue of over $600,000 during its first trimester, marking an important milestone in Hijazi’s and Hussar’s career.
In an interview with Business Insider, Hijazi commented his feelings about it: ‘We’ve seen a huge increase in subscribers. Audio people love listening to the podcast, and our joint channel has grown really fast compared to our own channels in the beginning.’
Due to the incredible success Zane and his associate have achieved with the audio-show, Spotify decided to prove their new video podcast feature with them. This allows users to not only listen but also see Zane and Heath in their element, though other Spotify features such as phone-screen blocking while listening to “Zane and Heath: Unfiltered” are still available.

He doesn’t think he could go back to Vine if the app was reactivated, as he is already used to YouTube’s video structure.

There’s a lot of things about Twitter I don’t like because I feel it can get hateful. But the funny stuff is really good. It’s like a great newspaper for your eyes.’
In an interview with One37pm, he revealed what is the most important thing for people who want to become YouTubers and have success on other social media: ‘Stay consistent, and be yourself. Always think outside of the box. Don’t be within limits, which I do all the time, but I think that’s good advice to give other people who want to start doing this.’
