Michael Keaton was born to George A. Douglas and Leona Elizabeth. His father was a civil engineer and his mother was a homemaker. He has 6 siblings and he is the youngest one. Keaton has Scottish, Scottish-Irish, German, and English ancestry on his father’s side and Irish ancestry on his mother’s side. Keaton lived in several places in Pennsylvania where he grew up. He was raised between McKees Rocks, Coraopolis, and Robinson Township. 

Keaton had to use another surname due to SAG rules as there was already an actor and another daytime host named Michael Douglas. He took the surname Keaton.

Michael Keaton made his Hollywood breakthrough after he played the co-starring role of Bill Blazejowski in the 1982 film, Night Shift. His comedic role as a fast-talking schemer earned him critical acclaim. It was Ron Howard’s directorial debut. His breakthrough with Night Shift earned him his first lead role in the hit film, Mr. Mom. 

He had made his film debut in a small non-speaking role in the 1978 comedy film, Rabbit Test.

Michael Keaton Is The Fourth Actor To Play Batman

Michael Keaton is the fourth actor to play the superhero role of Batman. Lewis Wilson, Robert Lowery, and Adam West played Batman before him. Initially, fans wrote Warner Bros that Keaton was the wrong choice to play Batman. However, his role ultimately earned widespread acclaim from both critics and audiences. He reprised his Batman role in the 1992 film, Batman Returns. He was set to reprise his role in Batman Forever. However, Keaton left the franchise after the film’s director Tim Burton was dropped as director from the film. Keaton refused a $15 million offer from Warner Bros. Val Kilmer replaced him as a Batman. 

Keaton will return as a Batman in the upcoming film, The Flash.

In terms of achievements, Birdman became one of the most successful films in his career. He played the role of Riggan Thomson in the film. He was nominated for Academy Award for Best Actor for his role. He won the Golden Globe Award, AACTA Award, Critics’ Choice Award, and several other critic’s awards for Best Actor for the role.
