Kim Min-jae played a youth football career with the football club of Tongyeong Elementary School, Yeoncho Middle School, and Suwon Technical High School. After he graduated from high school in 2015, he went on to Yonsei University. In July 2016, when he was a sophomore, he dropped out of school to fulfill his dream of making his professional debut, although Yonsei University tried to dissuade him. On 1 July 2016, he joined the semi-professional club Gyeongju KHNP and participated in the Korea National League since the middle of the 2016 season. On 22 December 2016, he joined K League club Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors on a free transfer and went on to win 2017 and 2018 K League 1 with the club. On 29 January 2019, he was transferred to Beijing Sinobo Guoan for the transfer fee of €5.25 million where he went on to play three seasons at the club. On 16 August 2021, he was transferred to Fenerbahce on a 4-year contract with a transfer fee of €3 million. He made his debut for the club on 22 August 2021.
On the international level, Kim Min-jae has represented South Korea at various age levels. He has represented South Korea at U20, U23, and the senior level. He made his senior international team debut for South Korea on 31 August 2017 in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers. He was part of the South Korea U23 squad that won the gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games. - On 22 December 2016, he joined K League club Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors on a free transfer. He made his debut for the club on 5 March 2017 in a 2-1 win against Jeonnam Dragons. In his first season, he made 30 appearances for the club, scoring 2 goals in all the competitions as Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors won the league title that season. With his impressive defensive performance, he also went on to play an integral role in Beijing’s runner-up finish in the 2019 CSL Season. Fenerbahce
