Born Julian Dana William McMahon under the zodiac sign of Leo on 27 July 1968, he’s a native of Sydney, Australia, and holds both Australian and American nationality. He’s the only son of Sir William McMahon, a former Prime Minister of Australia, and his wife Lady McMahon (nee Sonia Hopkins). Julian has two sisters, Melinda and Deborah. As a young boy, Julian dreamed to become a soldier, and enjoyed playing rugby. He attended the private all-boys Sydney Grammar School, and upon matriculating in 1986, enrolled at the University of Sydney to study law, however, he transferred to the University of Wollongong intending to study economics, however, Julian had little interest in academics, and subsequently began working as a model.
He modeled for numerous fashion houses, and was seen on the catwalk in major capitals of fashion such as Milan and Rome, Italy, London, England, Paris, France, and New York City USA. After Julian’s appearance in the commercial for Levi’s brand, he was offered his first acting role.
Roles in series
Julian made his acting debut as a Police Witness in an episode of the series “Rafferty’s Rules” in 1989, and in the same year guest-starred as Kane Edmonds in the series “The Power, the Passion”.
From 1990 through 1991, Julian starred as Ben Lucini in the long-running Australian series “Home and Away”, and was seen in 150 episodes of this romantic drama which chronicles the lives, happiness, love and heartbreaks of the residents of the small coastal town in Australia.
Julian eventually got a permit to work in the US, and in the following years, was seen as Ian Rain in the series “Another World” (1993-1994) before he was cast to play one of his most notable roles as Detective John Grant in the crime drama series “Profiler”, also starring Amy Walker and A Martinez. From 1996 to 2000, Julian made an appearance in 82 episodes of this show.
He followed with another notable role, as Cole Turner in the mystery fantasy-drama series “Charmed”, which followed the story of three sisters, portrayed by Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs and Shannen Doherty – the Charmed Ones – who battle against the forces of evil using their witchcraft. The show was highly rated by the audience, and had 20 award nominations winning five. Julian was seen in 47 episodes, from 2000 through 2005.
Concurrently, he portrayed his most significant role as Doctor Christian Troy in the series “Nip/Tuck”, appearing in 100 episodes from 2003 to 2010, which brought him six award nominations, including one for the Australian Film Institute International Award for Best Actor, and two Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films-Saturn Awards for Best Actor on Television, in 2005 and ’06.
In the following years, Julian was seen in “Full Circle” (2013) and “Childhood’s Ends” (2016) before his role as Jonah in “Runaways” (2017-2018).
From 2020 to 2022, Julian played Jess LaCroix in “FBI: Most Wanted”, also starring Roxy Sternberg, Alexa Davalos, and Keisha Castle-Hughes. The show follows the story of the Federal Investigation Bureau (FBI) division whose task is to track and capture the most notorious criminals on the FBI’s Most Wanted list.

Julian made his big-screen debut playing Mick Dooley in the 1993 movie “Wet and Wild Summer!”, and followed with his role as Michael Walsh in the 1997 thriller drama “Magenta”, which was his first lead role, starring opposite Alison Storry.

In the following year, Julian was seen as Hayes in the thriller “In Quiet Night”, about a man who was wrongfully accused of molesting his daughter. Although the movie had no nominations, it was well-rated by the audience.
The early 2000s saw Julian in “Chasing Sleep” (2000) and “Meet Market” (2004) before he was cast to play Victor Von Doom in the 2005 hit movie “Fantastic Four”, also starring Chris Evans and Michael Chiklis. The movie had 13 award nominations and won four.
In 2007, Julian was seen in “Premonition” and “Prisoner”, before he reprised his role as Victor Von Doom in the sequel “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer”, which brought him two Teen Choice Award nominations for Choice Movie: Rumble, and Choice Movie: Villain.

Julian met his first future wife, Danni Minogue, on the set of the series “Home & Away”. The two married in 1994, but divorced after just 18 months. Danni stated that she had a negative relationship with Julian’s mother from the beginning of their love story back in 1991, and that it was one of the biggest issues in her relationship and marriage with him.
In 1999, Julian married an actress, Brooke Burns, with whom he had a daughter., but the two divorced in 2001.
His third wife is Kelly Paniqua, an Australian model and actress. They married in 2014, and are still together as of April 2023.
