Albert Finney is a famous and elder English film and stage actor, producer, and director. Firstly he also established himself as a Shakespearean actor in the late 1950s. He also got the nomination for the Oscar. He appeared in different roles from a Polish pope to a Roman warrior throughout his career. All his roles were critically acclaimed, greatly admired and commercially successful. Whatever role was given to him, he just stepped into that character and performed it excellently without any care of age, nationality or profession.

Albert Finney was born in Charlestown, Pendleton, England on 9th May 1936 AD. His father’s name was Albert Finney, Sr. and his mother’s name was Alice Hobson. They belonged to a working-class family.

In his early childhood, he attended two schools, Total Drive Primary School and Salford Grammar School. In 1955, he got a degree of graduation from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. Soon after he also became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

He started his career in the theatre. The first time he appeared in Jane Arden’s “The Party” in 1958 on the London Stage. In 1959, he again performed on Stratford Stage in “Coriolanus.” The first time he appeared on big screen in 1960 in the movie “The Entertainer.” In the same year, he appeared in another great movie “Saturday Night and Sunday Morning.” In this movie, he portrayed the role of a disillusioned factory worker. He got his first nomination of Academy Award in 1963 for his role in the movie “Tom Jones.” Before this movie, he also performed in “Angry Young Man” a drama series.

Albert also remained involved with National Theatre Company in London and appeared in Shakespeare’s “Much Ado about Nothing” and Chekov’s “The Cherry Orchard” in the mid-1960s.

He appeared in “Charlie Bubbles” in 1968, and after that, he mainly focused on theatre. In 1974, he performed in one of his most successful movies “Murder on the Orient Express.” He also sang and performed in two musical movies “Annie” and “Scrooge.” For his different roles in movies, he earned Tony Awards nomination in 1964 for “Luther” and “A Day in Death of Joe Egg” in 1968.

In 1957, he tied his knot with actress Jane Wenham. The marriage was not successful and ended up in a divorce in 1961. Then he also went on to the second marriage with another actress Anouk Aimee in 1970. The second marriage also ended up in divorce in 1978. His third marriage took place in 2006 with Penelope Delmage.

He also blessed with a son from his first marriage at the age of 21. In the years from 2007 to 2012, he suffered from prostate cancer. That is why he did not appear much on the screen these years.

Finney refused to work in “Lawrence of Arabia,” and later the role was performed by Peter O’Toole, a former class fellow of Finney. This role brought a lot of success for O’Toole’s career.

Finney earned four nominations for the Oscar Award, but he never attended the ceremony in Los Angeles. He never won an Oscar. He also rejected the offer of knighthood twice.
