Chris Jonathan Bumstead was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada in 1995, so his zodiac sign is said to be Pisces, and he holds Canadian nationality. He is an International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) bodybuilder, best known for winning the Mr. Olympia competition in 2019 when he beat Breon Ansley.
Early life and education
Chris was raised in Ottawa by his father who is a lawyer, and his mother who is teaching at a local high school; Chris has an older sister. He was physically very active and played football while attending a local high school, and wanting to improve his performance, he started going to the gym to strengthen his muscles and build up his stamina.
The results were visible very soon, however, Chris fell in love with the gym and started spending most of his free time there, shaping his body and after meeting his sister’s husband Iain Valliere who is an IFBB professional bodybuilder, he started working on becoming a professional bodybuilder himself, and forgot about football. Upon matriculation, Chris didn’t enroll at college but rather focused on his career as a bodybuilder.
Career as a bodybuilder
Chris made his big debut as a bodybuilder in 2015 when he competed in the Canadian Bodybuilding Federation (CBBF) National Bodybuilding Championship Men’s Junior Division which he won, and in 2016 competed in the CBBF Open Heavyweight Division, finishing second right behind Khaled Chikhaoui.
In the same year, Chris competed in the IFBB North American Bodybuilding Championships, winning first place and earning his Pro Card.
Chris is also very active and popular on the internet, as his Instagram account is followed by over 1.2 million people, while he’s uploaded more than 1,300 pictures onto it. He is also a YouTuber who launched his channel on 5 March 2011, which is today subscribed to by nearly 300,000 people and counts over 28 million views of all his videos combined.
Workout routine
Chris works out five to seven days per week, working on a separate part of his body each day, never neglecting one group of muscles so that he could work on the others.
His favorite three exercises are squats, incline dumbbell press and bent-over barbell rows.
Chris does back exercises on his first day including deadlifts, bent-over rows, and wide grip latt pulldowns among others, while he does chest and biceps exercises on his second day such as incline dumbbell bench press, smith machine bench press, and barbell curls among numerous others. His third day is reserved for hamstrings and glutes, and exercises such as lying leg curls, straight legged deadlifts, and reverse hack squat. On the fourth day,he works on his shoulders and triceps, with exercises such as dumbbell lateral raises, single arm cable, and machine lateral raises.
He works on his quads on his fifth day, exercising with leg extensions, leg press and standing lunges among others.
Dieting plan
Chris is extremely careful and pedantic regarding his diet plan, and usually eats the same six meals each day, months before he is about to compete, as he believes that this way he can notice exactly what his body needs. When he is not competing, he will not pay that much attention to his intake of calories and fats, but still won’t eat fast food or too many sweets. He usually aims at having seven meals per day, while trying to reach 6,000 calories mostly from potatoes, rice and chicken meat.
Chris usually has egg whites and oats for breakfast, followed by chicken, rice, and mixed vegetables. His third meal is normally fish, sweet potato, and mixed vegetables, once again followed by his pre-workout meal made-up of white fish and rice. He takes a protein shake after his exercises made out of 100 percent Whey Isolate, while his sixth meal is chicken, sweet potato, broccoli and asparagus. His final meal of the day resembles his breakfast, as he eats two egg whites, three whole eggs, and mixed vegetables.
Love life and girlfriends

Chris is a huge lover of animals, with his favorites being horses, and he has a pet dog.
He enjoys watching movies in his spare time, and some of his favorite actors and actresses are Robert De Niro, Adam Sandler and Natalie Portman, while his favorite movies include “V for Vendetta”, the trilogy “The Godfather”, and “Anger Management”. Two of his favorite series are “Breaking Bad” and “Chernobyl”, and he likes to listen to rock music, and bands such as AC/DC and ZZ Top.
