Born Adam Bennett Schiff on the 22nd June 1960, in Framingham, Massachusetts USA to Edward Schiff and his wife Sherrill Ann (nee Glovsky), he was brought up in a Jewish household. The family moved to Scottsdale, Arizona when he was 10 years old, then two years later to Alamo, California.

He went to Danville’s Monte Vista High School, from which he matriculated in 1978, after which he enrolled at Stanford University, from which he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. He furthered his studies at Harvard Law School, from which he obtained a Juris Doctor in 1985.

Career Before Politics

Before Adam entered politics he pursued a career as an attorney; his first job was as a law clerk for Judge William Matthew Byrne Jr. of the US District Court for the Central District California.

After this, he became an Assistant US Attorney in the Office of the Central District from 1987 until 1993. While serving as an assistant, Adam came to limelight for working on the trial of Richard Miller, a former FBI agent accused of spying for the Soviet Union.

Politics

Adam made his first attempt at entry into the California State Assembly in 1994, when he was a candidate for the 43rd district seat, but was beaten by Republican nominee James E. Rogan. However, two years later, Schiff was elected to the 21st district of the California State Senate – at 36 years old he was the youngest member in the Senate.

He remained for four years, and served as chairman of the senate’s Judiciary Committee and Select Committee on Juvenile Justice, and was chairman of the state legislature’s Joint Committee on the Arts.

In 2000 he was voted into the US House of Representatives for California’s 27th congressional district, defeating his old opponent James E. Rogan. Since then, he has been re-elected every two years, and his 10th term began in January 2019. He became the Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee, a position in which he served from January 2015 until January of 2019, and then assumed the position as Chair of the House Intelligence Committee.

Impeachment against Donald Trump

Once he assumed the position, Adam became one of the lead investigators in the impeachment inquiry against Donald Trump. On the 15th January 2020, Schiff became the lead impeachment manager, nominated by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. With seven other House members, Adam was in charge of presenting the case of Trump’s impeachment to the United States Senate. The impeachment was successful, and Trump became only the third President of the US to be impeached.
