Early Life

Luka Blaise Boyd is the daughter of Paul Boyd and Angelyna Martinez. Luna’s name means “moon” in Spanish, and was chosen by her mother as a recall of her Hispanic roots. She has an older brother whose name is unknown.

Regarding her ethnicity, Luna considers herself of mixed race: ‘My dad is from Glasgow, Scotland, and my mother is from San Antonio, Texas, a second-generation Mexican-American. Everything about my life has been colorful, musical, and rich in culture.’ She told PopSugar.

Luna deeply appreciates her Latino origins and what it has contributed to her life: ‘My cultural background has had a profound effect in shaping who I am, particularly my Mexican side. My mom has brown skin and she is very proud to be Latina. Everything she does, from the way she dresses to the way she dances, projects her strong sense of identity.’

Blaise is a skilled dancer, having practiced Russian dance from an early age. There’s no information about her early education, though it’s known that at 13 years of age she entered a home-school program that allowed her to have enough time to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

Career

First Steps

Because of her parents’ professions – her father is a director and her mother a manager – it’s no wonder that Luna Blaise grew-up very close to the entertainment industry.

This led her to start modeling at five years old, appearing in commercials of renowned companies such as KFC, Target and McDonalds.

Her first appearance in a film was in “Vicious” in 2008, when she was only seven years old. Although she didn’t have an important role in the movie, only a cameo, her love for acting led her to keep pursuing more roles, and in 2012 she made her official acting debut in the movie “Memoria” as Nina. The independent film was directed by Vladimir de Fontenay and Nina Ljeti, and was based on the “Palo Alto” stories written by James Franco during his teens.

Regarding the experience of appearing in the film at such an early age, 11, Luna told Flaunt it was the role which set her path as an actress: ‘It was pretty crazy. I didn’t appreciate it enough at the time because I was so young, but being in a James Franco film is pretty cool. Filming that, I

came to understand what acting is: portraying someone else and bringing them to life. If you see the movie, it’s totally not who I am in any way, but that’s what I love about acting.’

TV Series Debut

Luna Blaise’s first important TV role was in playing Nicole’s carácter in the 2015 series “Fresh Off the Boat”. Despite her young age, Luna deeply enjoyed acting in the series, as her character was based on one of her biggest inspirations in real life: ‘My character on “Fresh Off The Boat” that’s who the crew told me, even the writers they said it’s sort of Jennifer Lopez-inspired. So that’s sort of what my character is like. I dress like her on the show. I act like her on the show, like from “Jenny From the Block”. That’s kind of like my inspiration and definitely for music too, because she’s so insanely beautiful.’

Her appearances in “Right Off the Boat” saw Luna Blaise win the Young Artist Awards’ category for Best Recurring Role in 2016.

Also in 2016, Luna appeared as the love interest of Jacob Sartorius in the music video of his song “Sweetheart”.

Although this represented a good opportunity for her as a model, it also generated a backlash on her social media accounts, as fans of the singer made negative comments about her, as it was speculated she was in a relationship with him – untrue!

Music

Luna Blaise made her debut as a singer in 2017 with the single “Over You”, written by her. Although she didn’t write the lyrics based on personal experiences, she felt it was a song fitting for a young love: ‘it’s not just about a boy who you like for two seconds and then you’re over them. In the song, it says ‘I’m never going to get over you.’ So it’s kind of like having a crush, and you’re just so hopelessly devoted to them, but you know you’re just going to stay friends and that’s totally fine. That’s sort of what it’s about and just going through your whole “crush” phase.’

Besides Jennifer Lopez, Luna also considers Beyonce, Kehlani and The Beatles as her music influences.

Regarding her musical background, she recalls her interest in it started during her childhood: ‘I come from a very musical family. I didn’t grow up watching TV, instead my family and me listened to and played music all the time. I remember when I was little our dining room was turned into a rehearsal space for about five years, complete with drum kit, guitars, amps and mics. My parents brought music speakeasies on the weekends, when all their musician friends would come over and just jam.’

Luna released her second single entitled “Secrets” in 2018.

“Manifest”

Also in 2018, Luna Blaise was cast in her second important role, in the sci-fi series “Manifest” playing Olive Stone’s character, which was very significant for her, as it brought her immense fame, and so more opportunities in the entertainment industry.

Despite the fictional theme of the series, Luna considers her character in “Manifest” as ‘inspiring’, telling The Knockturnal: ‘What I love about playing Olive is that she’s really real. The circumstance that she’s been through is not something that is normal, but she has real feelings and you see that, and you see the bond from her and her dad and her twin brother. I’m excited for everyone to see that.’
