Blake Tollison Shelton was born on 18 June 1976, in Ada, Oklahoma, to Richard Shelton, a used car salesman, and Dorothy, a beauty salon owner. Blake’s uncle taught him how to play the guitar after he started singing at an early age, then at the age of 15, Shelton wrote his first song. Blake’s older brother Richie died in a car accident in October 1990. His father, Dick, 71, died in Oklahoma in 2012, after a period of declining health.
