Childhood and education
Tory was raiseds an only child in Brampton by his mother Luella who was from Curacao and his father Sonstar who is from Barbados – after the death of his wife, Sonstar started working as a missionary and minister, and he and Tory moved to Miami.
Because Tory had behavioral problems, his father sent him to live with his cousin in Queens, New York City, but he was eventually forced to return to Canada to Toronto.
Tory was on his own after turning 15 and then dropped out of high school to pursue his career as a rapper – he was 17 when he began performing without any proper vocal training, and at that time was mostly influenced by Ray J and Brandy.
Career as a rapper
Tory’s debut mixtape came out in 2009 entitled “T.L 2 T.O.”, and he then started filming his music videos and uploading them onto his YouTube channel.
The year 2010 saw the release of several of his mixtapes such as “Mr. 1 Verse Killah”, “Playing for Keeps” and “One Verse One Hearse”, and the following year he signed a contract with Kingston’s Time is Money Entertainment, and released his mixtapes “Swavey” and “Mr. Peterson”. In 2013, he released the mixtape “Sincerely Tory, Conflicts of My Soul: The 416 Story”, while his next, “Chixtape II”, came out in 2014. His following mixtape “Lost Cause” was released on 1 October 2014, while the mixtape that helped him attract a lot of attention “Cruel Intentions” was released on 26 June 2015.
His debut studio album was announced on 15 July 2015 entitled “I Told You”, and he then signed a contract with both Interscope and Mad Love Records. Tory released two new mixtapes, “The New Toronto” and “Chixtape III” on the same day oof 25 December 2015, followed on 19 August 2016 his album “I Told You”. Tory’s second studio album, “Love Me Now?” was released on 26 October 2018 and was followed by two other albums – “Chixtape 5” and “The New Toronto 3” – on 15 November 2019 and 10 April 2020, respectively.
Most recently, on 25 September 2020, Tory released his new album “Daystar”.
Awards
Tory has been nominated for more than 10 awards, winning his first – a Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year – in 2017 for his single “Shooters”, and in 2019 he won another Juno Award for Rap Recording for his album “Love Me Now?” and in the same year also won a Juno Award for Rap Recording for his single “Freaky”. In 2020, he won another Juno Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year for his single “Feel It Too”.
Problems with the law
During a concert on 26 March 2016, Tory started yelling at the crowd, telling them to ‘f*ck shit up’ as they were violent towards the security, but this only made them become even more violent and the concert had to be shut down.
On 12 July 2020, Tory was arrested for having a concealed weapon, and in October was charged with carrying a loaded and unregistered weapon in his car, using the firearm and assaulting with a semi-automatic weapon – it’s believed that he could be sentenced to up to 22 years in prison.
Love life and relationships
Tory is quite open when it comes to his love life, and there are nine women whom he has dated that the public knows about.
From mid-2014 to early 2015 he dated American rapper Trina, and not long after their split, he started seeing DreamDoll, another American rapper.
The year 2017 saw him date Kavlin Garcia, an American dancer, and they were together for several months, although there were rumors circulating the internet that Tory was cheating on Kavlin with Bria Myles, an American adult and glamour model. Tory went on to date American actress Masika Kalysha for several months in 2017, and then dated Nakita Johnson, a South African internet star, for about a year.
In 2018, he dated both the American rapper Kash Doll and the Puerto Rican reality TV star Joseline Hernandez, and most recently in 2020, Tory dated Megan Thee Stallion, an American rapper. However, as of November 2020, he is single, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

Tory is a lover of animals, and his favorites are dogs but a special type –big and dangerous.
He loves to travel, and his singing career has made it possible for him to go all around the US as well as to visit several European countries, while he’s also travelled to Africa on a number of occasions.
