Hwang Hee-chan is a South Korean professional football player who plays for Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers, on a loan from RB Leipzig, and the South Korea team as a forward. He is nicknamed the “Bull” (Hwangso) in South Korea due to his aggressive playing style and surname. He started playing football in Singok Elementary School in Uijeongbu. In 2008, he scored the most goals in both Hwarangdaegi Tournament and Dongwon Youth Cup which were South Korean national youth competitions. He made his debut for the club on 6 December 2015. On 31 August 2018, he joined Hamburger SV on a loan deal until the end of the 2018-19 season where he made 21 appearances for the club, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists in all the competitions. On 8 July 2020, he signed for RB Leipzig on a five-year contract. He made his debut for the club on 12 September 2020 in the first round of the 2020-21 DFB-Pokal. Hwang Hee-chan was born on 26 January 1996. His birthplace is Chuncheon, Gangwon, South Korea. He was born to his father, Hwang Won-kyung, and his mother, Song Young-mi where he grew up alongside his elder sister whose name is unknown. Hwang Hee-chan Club Career

  • He started playing football in Singok Elementary School in Uijeongbu. In 2008, he scored the most goals in both Hwarangdaegi Tournament and Dongwon Youth Cup which were South Korean national youth competitions. He also scored 22 goals in Kanga Cup for the South Korea U12 team, which was the highest record in the history of the tournament. With outstanding performances in these competitions, he was awarded the grand prize of the Cha Bum-kun Football Award, given to the greatest youth footballers in South Korea.
  • After graduating from Singok Elementary School, he entered Pohang Jecheol Middle School and started to play in the school’s football club, the Pohang Steelers U15 team. In 2011, his team won the middle school division of the Korean National School League, hosted by Korean FA, and he received the MVP award of the competition.

During his 2015-16 season, he made 14 appearances for the club in all the competitions as he failed to score in his first Austrian Bundesliga season. Additionally, Red Bull Salzburg won the Austrian Bundesliga and Austrian Cup that season. 
  • On 21 September 2016, he scored his first goal for the club in a 7-1 win against Mannsdorf in the second round of the 2016-17 Austrian Cup. He then scored his first league goal for the club on 23 October 2016, scoring twice in a 5-1 win against SKN St. Polten. On 3 November 2016, he came off the bench and scored a brace in a Europa League match for Salzburg against Ligue 1 side Nice, contributing to his team’s first Europa win of the campaign. During his 2016-17 season, he made 37 appearances for the club, scoring 16 goals and providing 3 assists in all the competitions as Red Bull Salzburg won the Austrian Bundesliga and Austrian Cup that season. 
  • During the 2017-18 season, Red Bull Salzburg had their best ever European campaign. They finished top of their Europa League group, for a record fourth time, before beating Real Sociedad and Borussia Dortmund thus making their first-ever appearance in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League. However, they lost on aggregate by 3-2 against Marseille in the semi-final. During that season, he made 37 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals and providing 4 assists in all the competitions as Red Bull Salzburg won the Austrian Bundesliga that season. 
  • On 31 August 2018, he joined Hamburger SV on a loan deal until the end of the 2018-19 season where he made 21 appearances for the club, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists in all the competitions.
