Jim Carrey was born on 17 January 1962. His birthname is James Eugene Carrey. His birthplace is in Newmarket, Ontario in Canada. He holds Canadian as well as American nationality. He received U.S. citizenship in October 2004. He was born to a father, Percy Carrey, and a mother, Kathleen Oram. He has French, Irish, and Scottish ancestry on his mother’s side, whereas he has French ancestry on his father’s side. He was raised Roman Catholic. His religion is Christianity.   • Jim Carrey was only 10 years old when he wrote a letter to Carol Burnett of the Carol Burnett Show. He wrote in the letter that he was a master of impressions and should be offered a role on the show. He had received a reply.
  • He had his first stand up gig in 1977 at the newly-opened Yuk Yuk’s comedy club in downtown Toronto. He was only 15 at the time. 
  • He also dropped out of college at the age of 16 to pursue comedy seriously as an impressionist and began performing comedy in downtown Toronto. 
  • He soon started having regular paid shows. 
  • He auditioned to be a cast member for the 1980-81 season of NBC’s SNL. However, he was not selected.
