Jonathan Irons was just 16 years old kid when he was convicted of breaking into a Missouri home and twice non-fatal shooting of a homeowner during a burglary by the Missouri Department of Corrections. For his undone crime, he was sentenced for 50 years even though no physical evidence was found to support his sentencing.
Irons was under arrested without any prominent evidence for over 23 years until officers collected fingerprint, footprint, and DNA evidence at the crime which didn’t belong to Jonathan or neither did it linked him to the crime scene.
Seeing the unfair decision and laws of government, Maya Moore couldn’t stop herself but to raise voice against the willingness to put a victim in prison without any evidence. She pressed for the release of Irons from the Jefferson City correctional center and even took a sabbatical from basketball in 2019 and 2020, hoping to secure his release.
With efforts and prayers, Irons was released on July 1, 2020. After his release, he said, “I’m free, I’m blessed, I just want to live my life worthy of God’s help and influence. I thank everybody who supported me-Maya and her family”.
