Kodi Lee is a Korean-American singer-songwriter and pianist who is well known as the first blind winner of season 14 of the popular reality competition show, “America’s Got Talent”. Lee rose to fame after he participated in the show as one of the thousand participants eventually making history becoming the show’s 14th winner. 

On May 28, 2019, Lee gave an audition for the show performing Leon Russell’s “A Song For You”, impressed by which Judge Gabrielle Union pushed her golden buzzer for him making him the first contestant to receive a golden buzzer on the season. 

Born with optic nerve hypoplasia leading him to be legally blind, Lee didn’t let the disability come on his way to reach the goal he set to become a singer. Kodi Lee was born on July 7, 1996, in Utah, United States. His birth name is Kodi Lee. His nationality is Korean-American. Lee belongs to mixed ethnicity while Cancer is his zodiac sign. 

Kodi Lee was born as the firstborn child to an American mother, Tina, and Korean father, Eric Lee. Lee grew up in a very supportive family who has supported him in every step of his life. He has two younger siblings: a brother, Derek, and a sister, Kayla, with whom he spent his childhood. Kodi Lee’s Legacy on “America’s Got Talent”

Kodi Lee began his career on “America’s Got Talent” giving an audition on season 14 of the show performing Leon Russell’s “A Song For You” while playing piano on May 28, 2019. His marvelous performance left everyone in gasp and tears impressed by which all the 4 Judges Gabrielle Union, Howie Mandel, Simon Cowell, and Julianne Hough gave him a standing ovation, Union even pressed the first golden buzzer of the season for him sending him straight through to the live shows of the program, Quarterfinals.

His audition video for America’s Got Talent amassed more than 50 million views within the first two weeks.

Lee’s Quarterfinals performance was his astonishing performance by Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge over Troubled Water” while playing the piano. At the end of the performance, almost all audiences including judges gave him standing ovations. Kodi also received enough votes to advance to the Semifinals. 

On the semi-finals, he performed “You Are the Reason” by Calum Scott, who also competed on “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2015 while playing the piano. Like usual, all judges including guest judge Sean Hayes all gave him standing ovations. Receiving enough votes, Lee reached finals as one of the ten finalists for the season.

For his final performance, he gave his best performing “Lost Without You” by Freya Ridings. Kodi was the only solo singing act to make it to the Top 5. On the huge day of finals, He again performed “You Are the Reason” again but with special guest, Leona Lewis aired on September 18, 2019. Receiving over million and highest votes, he was announced as the winner of the show defeating Detroit Youth Choir, Ryan Niemiller, V.Unbeatable, and Voices of Service. 

Winning the title he also won $1 million and got furthermore chances and offers to perform all around the US. He headlined shows from Nov. 7-10 at Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. After the show, Kodi returned as a guest performer in “America’s Got Talent: The Champions” singing Harry Styles’ “Sign of the Times”. He then returned in Episode 1510 performing FINNEAS’ “Break My Heart Again” during the quarterfinals week 1 show. 

He then performed locally at a number of shows and ventures including local restaurants, wineries, and music events all around the US. Lee was also invited to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City. 

Previously, he has sung the national anthem at the Elsinore High School pep rally in 2012, later graduating to the small stage at the Long Beach Aquarium where he performed at the Human Abilities Event with his sister Kayla and brother Derek the following year, 2013.
