Early life and childhood

Lucas was born on 28 September 1978 in Elmira, Ontario, Canada, so under the influence of the sun sign Libra. His parents are M. Darrol Bryant and Susan Hodges Bryant – his father was born in North Dakota and his mother also in the US; they shifted to Canada during Lucas’s pregnancy.

Education

Bryant attended Elmira District Secondary School and matriculated high school. He further enrolled at Sheridan College situated in Oakville, Ontario, and studied theatre and acting.

Career

In high school, Lucas acted in several school theater productions as well as at the Sears Ontario Drama Festival. He got his first part in “Queer as Folk” as a student in 2002, and was the lead actor in the UPN series, “Sex, Love & Secrets” in 2005. The same year he made an appearance in “More Sex and the Single Mom”, and guest starred in “Odyssey 5”.

In the next couple of years he was seen in several Canadian projects such as “Crazy Canucks”, “The Eleventh Hour” and “An American in Canada”.

Bryant starred as Calvin Puddie in the 2006 movie “Playing House” which was based on the book by Patricia Pearson. He also played Brad in the musical “I Hate Musicals”. He made appearances in “The Vow” and “A Very Merry Daughter of the Bride”. In 2010, he played in the suspense-thriller TV series “Perfect Plan”.

In 2010, Lucas was awarded the lead role in “Haven” which is based on a novel by Stephen King called “The Colorado Kid”. He played the character Nathan Wuornos who is a local cop opposite star Emily Rose. In 2011, he ranked number 72 on the list of ‘TV’s Sexiest Men of 2011’ by Buddy TV.

In 2012, he starred in the movie “Merry In-Laws” as Peter, a teacher who is engaged to an astronomer. The movie was directed by Leslie Hope who had worked with Lucas before in “A Very Merry Daughter of the Bride”.

In 2013, he was seen in shows “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, “Beauty & the Beast” and “Cracked”.

Lucas played Count Johan Oxenstierna in the drama “The Girl King” in 2015, and also had a supporting role in “Secret Summer”, along with his former co-star Emily Rose. In 2016, he appeared as Tom Novak in “Tulips in Spring” which was a Hallmark Original Movie. He also appeared as Colin Fitzgerald in “Summer Love”, and was seen in “Shoot the Messenger”, a CBC series.

In 2019, he portrayed the character of Keller in three episodes of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” He also played Duke in the TV movie “Country at Heart”, and Jack in “Time for You to Come Home for Christmas”.

Relationship

Lucas has been married to Australian actress and personal trainer Kirsty Hinchcliffe, for over twelve years. They welcomed their daughter in August 2008 and a son in 2015. They currently live in Santa Monica, California.

He tried to bribe his way into getting the role for “Haven”, and sent everyone a bag of bars called Coffee crisps. He directed one episode of “Haven” that was entitled “Enter Sandman” in the last season.
