Manish Dayal is an Indian-American actor who is probably best known to the world as Hassan in the film “The Hundred-Foot Journey”, and also as Devon Pravesh in the TV crime-drama series “The Resident” (2018-2020), in addition to other roles he has acquired during his career.

He went to Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, and once he finished high school, enrolled at George Washington University, from where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre and acting, and then furthered his education at the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts.

Career Beginnings

He moved to New York permanently, looking for his acting debut, and in 2005 Manish was cast in the short film “Time and the Hour Run”. After this, he made an appearance in the Indian film “Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna” in 2006, and was also cast in the lead role in the film “On the Other Side”.

Dayal’s career was rising, with his name becoming familiar with producers and directors. He started getting more prominent roles, and in the second half of the 2000s appeared in such projects as “Cain’s Mark” (2008), then the comedy film “Karma Calling”, while he also had a minor role in the fantasy action-adventure film “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” (2010), which starred Monica Belluci, Nicolas Cage and Teresa Palmer, and in the same year featured in the comedy-drama film “Walkaway”.

Rise to Stardom

With the start of the new decade, Manish secured more prominent roles, such as that of Raj Kher in the TV series “90210”, portraying the character through 2011 and 2012 seasons.

His next big role was in 2017 as Jeet Kumar in the biopic entitled “Viceroy’s House”, about the last Viceroy of India, Louis Francis Albert Victor Nicholas Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, starring alongside Hugh Bonneville, Gillian Anderson, and Manish Dayal.

The following year he secured yet another prominent role, this time as Devon Pravesh, one of the lead characters in the medical drama series “The Resident” (2018-2020), appearing in all 57 episodes along with other stars, Matt Czuchry and Emily VanCamp, among others.

He was also the voice of Shashi Dhar, in the animated short series “Fast & Furious Spy Racers” (2019) and is currently working on the comedy film “Holidate”, starring Emma Roberts, Kristin Chenoweth, and Frances Fisher, but interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Manish has tried himself as a writer, director, and producer too, having worked alone on the short film “Fifteen Years Late”, starring with Matt McGorry and Rachel Brosnahan.
