Michelle Yeoh was born on August 6, 1962, in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. Her birth name is Michelle Yeoh Choo Kheng. She holds Malaysian nationality. Her ethnicity is Asian while Leo is her zodiac sign. She is of  Hokkien and Cantonese descent.

Michelle was born to Janet Yeoh(mother) and Yeoh Kian-teik(father). Her father was a lawyer and MCA politician who played a vital role in the popular express bus service, Sri Maju.

She was raised in her hometown, Ipoh. At the age of 4, she started learning ballet. She did her schooling at Main Convent Ipoh. When she was 15, her family moved to the United Kingdom where she joined a boarding school.

Growing up, she developed a great interest in dance and went on to graduate from the UK’s Royal Academy of Dance in London with a major in ballet. She gave up her ambition of being a professional dancer after suffering a spinal injury and shifted her focus to choreography and other disciplines.
