Career
First steps
Ruby debuted as an actress both in movies and television at aged 14 in 2010. She was cast for a minor role as the young Rebecca in the science-fiction drama movie “Womb,” starring the English actor, Matthew Smith, and French actress, Eva Green who played the adult Rebecca – it had the title “Clone” in its UK DVD release. Being cast for the major role as Sophie Kellermann in the real-time crime series, “13 Hours: Race against Time,” also known as “Alone against Time” was a big break for her.
Its real-time structure was similar to that of American TV series, “24,” except that in the German series, the story revolved around a group of students who would stop the bad guys from accomplishing their evil plan. It ran for two seasons from 2010 to 2012 with 26 episodes, and this made her well known to the public. A movie version of the TV series was made and released in October of 2016 in German theaters. The main characters in the movie were played by the same actors in the series, except for the role of Sophie, which was played by Stephanie Amarell instead of Ruby.
Further success
After her successful debut as an actress, she has continued to accept television series, TV movies, and movie projects every year since. Most notable were her supporting role in the movie, “The Black Brothers,” and her guest appearance in the TV series, “Tatort,” in 2013.
In 201, she landed the role of Sophie v. Gelenberg in the fantasy film “Bibi & Tina,” which starred Lina Larissa Strahl and Lisa-Marie Koroll in the title roles. The movie was based on the children’s radio play series of the same title, and was a success at the box office with a cumulative worldwide gross of almost $9 million. Its sequel, “Tina & Bibi: Bewitched,” was released in December of that year, with a worldwide gross of almost $8 million.
The adventure of Tina & Bibi continued in two more films shown in 2016 and 2017, and they were even more successful than the first two. Ruby’s character was only in the first two movies.
In 2016, she was cast in the leading role of Marthe in the historical thriller film, “The Secret of the Midwife,” which was based on “The Mystery of the Midwife,” a novel by Sabine Ebert, and received positive reviews from critics. She portrayed a variety of characters in several television movies she made that year, such as her role as Jessy in the comedy, “Crazy about Fixi,” as the Fairy Lupine in the fairytale “Prince Himmelblau and Fairy Lupine,” and as Desdemona in the comedy-drama, “Shakespeare’s Last Round.”
The succeeding years were also good to Ruby, as she was the main lead in the TV movie “The Heretic Bride” in 2017, which attracted more than 2.5 million viewers to its first broadcast. Also in 2017, she was cast for the role of Ruth Arndt in the documentary drama “The Invisibles,” about the silent heroes or rescuers of the Jews in Berlin during the Holocaust. In 2018, she played the role of Nanny Amy in the TV movie, “Nanny Desperately Wanted,” based on one of the British writer Rosamunde Pilcher’s romantic novels and short stories.
Ruby was also part of the 2019 American-German action film “Polar,” which starred the Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, and American actress, Vanessa Hudgens – this movie adaptation of Victor Santos’ graphic novel premiered on Netflix in January 2019. Her most recent project was in January 2020 in the movie, “Lindenberg! Do Your Thing,” which was about the life and music career of the rock musician and writer, Udo Lindenberg.

Ruby received the Jupiter Award for Best German TV Actress in 2014 for her performance as the murder suspect, Sarah, in the “Happy Birthday, Sarah” episode of the police procedural television series “Tatort.”

Matthias was born on 11 March 1981, in Aklam, then West Germany, to Michael and Gitta Schweighöfer, both actors,. He participated in the school play “The Opera of Four,” and later attended the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts, but left after a year. His television debut was in 1997 at age 16, and he continued working on television until 2017. His first feature film was in 2000 and he has been busy making movies almost every year after that, up to 2020. He released studio albums in 2017 and 2018.
