Early life and family

Patrick Simondac was born on 11 November 1989, in Orlando, Florida USA – he holds Filipino and American nationality, and his zodiac sign is Scorpio. Both Patrick’s parents are Filipinos, who immigrated to the US with their three kids; they brought up their sons in the Catholic religion. Patrick’s mother is an experienced nurse, and initially he wanted to inherit her profession, but eventually changed his mind. Patrick’s father is an entrepreneur, and a mature golf player. Both parents support Patrick on social media, accepting their unique child the way he is.

Patrick has two younger brothers, Paul and Peter, who can be seen in his video entitled “BROTHERS DO MY MAKEUP”. Peter has recently graduated from the University of Central Florida with a BA in accounting; he is also into musical theatre and acting. Paul is also a student at the University of Central Florida, being involved with Color Guard and Drum Corps. Patrick has very warm and supportive relationships with his brothers, and they help him a lot in filming the videos for his YouTube channel: ‘Yes, PatrickStarrr is famous or whatever, but to me he’s still my brother, he still worries about me, he still gives me advice, and I look up to him as a role model’, Paul shared on his Instagram account.

Educational background

Patrick attended the Timber Creek High School in Orlando, matriculating in 2007. In high school he took swimming classes, choir, drama, tennis and golf.

He was also in the cast of his school production of “Cats”, which inspired him to wear makeup in his daily life, feeling that he didn’t want to wipe it all off completely. It was also the time when he did everybody’s hair in the drama classes, and many liked the way he did it. Little is known about the college Patrick graduated form, but it is known that he was seriously interested in photography in his school years – he’s never taken any photography courses, so is completely self-taught.

Career

Working in the make-up stores

In 2011 Patrick applied for his first job at one of the local department stores, as he wanted to work in the MAC make-up shop. Patrick felt very inspired to get the job, as he was eager to be accepted in the make-up industry, and even tried to wear some powder, mascara and brow powder.

The make-up store he worked in had so-called ‘themed days’, when all the consultants wore some expressive make-up to push new products and make-up trends. Some of Patrick’s colleagues chose to do a make-up of Audrey Hepburn or Cleopatra, but as Patrick was a boy, he had no idea what celebrity to choose. One of his fellow-consultants prompted him to do the make-up of Jeffree Star, but Patrick didn’t even know who he was. In the end, when Patrick found out all the details of Jeffrey’s candy-styled look, he practiced the whole evening before the ‘themed day’, and came to work wearing the Jeffree Star make-up, his colleagues asked him to wipe it off. Patrick felt deeply embarrassed – he couldn’t even hide in the back room to clean up, so he had to wipe his make up in front of the customers and his colleagues.

When he remembers that day, he gets emotional, as it hurt him a lot. In 2012 he changed his job, but couldn’t stop experimenting with his own make-up, adding new products to his look. Some of his managers asked him to ‘calm down’ and to wear a bit less make-up, be ‘more of a boy’. However, in 2014 one of the customers notice the lipstick Patrick was wearing that day, and asked his manager to give her the same product. It was the moment Patrick felt very inspired, and understood he was doing it all right.

Rise to fame in social media

In 2013 Patrick met Viva Glam Kay, the popular Instagram make-up artist and influencer. They were taking the same $20 make-up class in Orlando, and Patrick shared he wanted to do something big in the upcoming year of 2014; Viva Glam Kay told him: ‘Patrick, have courage and be kind!’.

From that moment Patrick was unstoppable. On 22 February 2014 he had his first make-up class of his own, having 20 seats at first, but eventually expanding to 40 seats sold out, as so many people wanted to come and see Patrick and Viva Glam Kay.

In April 2014 Patrick and Viva Glam Kay moved to New York and opened their make-up booth right next to the booth of Morphe Brushes, where Patrick saw Jeffree Star. Jeffree took a photo with Patrick and added the capture to it on his Instagram account: ‘When stars collide’, and it made a ‘full circle’ for Patrick, who was now the person Jeffree himself wanted to take pictures with.

In June 2014 Patrick moved to Los Angeles, California. He got to the Fame Expo event, where he met his future colleague and friend, Manny Mua, a popular YouTuber and Instagrammer, with whom Patrick later had a lot of successful collaborations.

He also had a project with Anastasia Beverly Hills and Norvino. It was the time Patrick’s Instagram and YouTube channel started to grow, even though he was still afraid he would be forever stuck in the mall, doing make-up for customers there. The number of his subscribers started growing, and as of 2020, he has more than 4.7 million subscribers on Instagram, while his YouTube channel is followed by over 4.4 million.

Friendship with Talia Joy (Castellano) and further success

Patrick considers Talia Joy, the late famous YouTuber, to be one of his biggest inspirations. He made friends with her through her friend Leah, working in the same location Patrick did, and they met several times, while Patrick did some make-up for Talia. When she passed away in 2013, losing the fight with neuroblastoma and leukemia, Patrick’s video on YouTube was one of the last she liked.

He’s also made similar make-up tutorials for Maddie Ziegler, Rihanna and Katy Perry, attracting millions of views.

Patrick has commercial contract with such brands as NYX, Sigma, Sephora and Benefit. He also owns his own nail polish brand “Formula X”. In 2017 Patrick won the Beauty Streamy Award for his works in the contest. As a guest star, he’s appeared in such TV shows as “America’s Next Top Model”, “Daily Pop”, etc.

Personal life. Did he actually marry Manny Mua Gutierrez?

There has been a lot of speculation on Patrick’s sexuality, until he tweeted on 3 August 2017 that he was a proud gay and supported the whole LGBT community. He was rumored to have had an affair and even married another YouTuber, Manny “Manny Mua” Gutierrez, as they posted their wedding photos on their social media accounts. However, it all turned out to be a promotion for their new wedding make-up and hairstyle tutorials on YouTube. In his video Patrick posted on 25 September 2016, he stated that he was a man, not even a transgender, who just loved wearing make-up.

Patrick’s biggest passion has always been photography.

Patrick can’t speak his native language, even though he is Filipino, but he can understand it quite well. During his youth, Patrick was a trained classical pianist, and even assisted his numerous friends during singing competitions. He can also play flute and clarinet.
