Sam Mewis is an American professional soccer player who currently plays as a midfielder for English FA WSL team Manchester City and the United States national team. On August 10, 2020, Mewis signed with Manchester City of the English FA WSL ahead of the 2020–21 season. She is the first member of the USA team to join a Women’s Super League side following the conclusion of the NWSL Challenge Cup.

In 2011, she was named Gatorade Massachusetts Girls Soccer Player of the Year for the second time and later receiving the honor of being named as the ESPN RISE All-American that same year.

Mewis then joined the University of California where she continued playing football as a member of UCLA Bruins.   • Mewis was a member of the United States under-17 team that was runner-up at the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand. It was the same year when she made history with her sister, Katie as the first sisters to make an appearance together at the Women’s World Cup. They also played together at the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
  • She earned her senior team cap in 2014, making a debut appearance at that year’s Algarve Cup.
  • Following the team’s success at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, she was invited back to the senior national team and played games scoring four goals in 2016 including the winning goal against Germany in 2016 She Believes Cup that won the United States the trophy.

  • Sam Mewis made her professional debut after signing with the Pali Blues in the W-League in 2013. She helped the team to win the western conference title and a national championship as well in July.
  • Mewis then got selected fourth overall by the Western New York Flash in the 2015 National Women’s Soccer League entry draft. While with the club, she won the NSWL Rookie of the Year Award, helped the team qualify for playoffs, and win the NSWL championship title in 2016.
