Who is Jack Gleeson?

Irish actor Jack Gleeson was born in Cork, Ireland on 20 May 1992, meaning that Taurus is his zodiac sign. He’s appeared in 13 TV series and movies, and is known best for playing Joffrey Baratheon (2011-2014), one of the most hated characters in the critically acclaimed action adventure series “Game of Thrones”, which many critics rate one of the best series of all time. D. B. Weiss and David Benioff created it, while it starred Kit Harrington, Emilia Clarke and Peter Dinklage; it aired from 2011 through 2019, follows nine noble families fighting to control Westeros, and the series won 389 of its 1,033 award nominations, including 59 Primetime Emmy wins.

Education and early life

Jack was raised in Ranelagh, Dublin alongside his sisters Emma and Rachel who are today stage actresses, by their parents about whom Jack’s yet to speak in public, as he respects their privacy.

He became involved in Irish theatre at a very early age, and was 10 when he made his debut film appearance, playing Kid in the 2002 action adventure fantasy “Reign of Fire”, directed by Rob Bowman, and which starred Matthew McConaughey, Christian Bale and Izabella Scorupco; it follows a group of people trying to fight off dragons which’ve established dominance on Earth, and the movie won one of its four award nominations.

Jack studied at Trinity College Dublin, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 2015; he was a member of the college’s drama club DU Players, and was elected a scholar in 2012.

Roles in movies

Jack played the lead character in the 2002 short family drama “Moving Day”, written and directed by Ron Burke, and which also starred William O’Sullivan and Stella Feehilly; the film follows William who has to move houses, but he and his best friend Jack are trying to stop this from happening. In 2003, Jack starred in the short comedy “Fishtale”, and the following year saw him star in the short drama “Tom Waits Made Me Cry”.

In 2006, he portrayed Little Boy in the evergreen crime action “Batman Begins”, which Christopher Nolan directed, and which starred Ken Watanabe, Michael Caine and Christian Bale. It follows Batman as he’s trying to clean-up Gotham City of corruption; the movie won 14 of its 93 award nominations, including an Oscar nomination for Best Achievement in Cinematography.

The year 2007 saw Jack play Lonely Twin in the horror mystery comedy “Shrooms”, which was nominated for three awards, and he was then cast to play Seamus in the 2009 family drama “A Shine of Rainbows”. In 2010, he portrayed the main character Dara in the drama “All Good Children”, written and directed by Alicia Duffy, and which also starred Imogen Jones and David Brazil. It follows the life of two Irish children who are staying with their aunt in France, and the series was nominated for five awards.

Jack was focused solely on shooting for the series “Game of Thrones” from 2011 through 2014, and was then somewhat forced to stay away from the film industry because of how much people hated him for portraying Joffrey in the series; he even received many death threats, and his family agreed that it would be best for Jack to quit acting.

He eventually returned to the film industry, and in 2021 starred as Rory in the comedy movie “Rebecca’s Boyfriend”, written and directed by Craig Austin Reynolds, and which also starred Cameron Macaulay and Mark Doherty; it follows Cameron who’s cheated on his girlfriend, and is now wondering whether or not he’s a good person.

Jack’s currently shooting for the upcoming movie “In the Land of Saints and Sinners”.

Roles in TV series

Jack’s appeared in two other series besides “Game of Thrones”. His TV series debut was playing Pa Connors Jr. in four episodes (2006-2008) of the comedy “Killinaskully”, created by Pat Shortt, who also starred in it, alongside Jack Walsh and Pascal Scott; it follows the lives of several Kilnaskully residents, the series aired from 2003 through 2008 and was nominated for three awards.

Jack’s only other role has been playing Casper in the episodes “My Life is Ova” and “Pants on Fire” of the 2020 comedy “Out of Her Mind”, which starred Sara Pascoe, Juliet Stevenson and Fiona Button, and is about ‘heartbreak, family and how to survive them’.

Jack’s been featured in a number of TV specials, including the 2011 “Game of Thrones: Costumes”, the 2012 “Game of Thrones: Season 2 – in Production: Croatia”, and the 2012 “Electric Burma”.

Jack’s won three of his 11 award nominations. He won two IGN Summer Movie Awards for Best TV Villain in 2012 and 2013, and a 2020 CinEuphoria Merit – Honorary Award (shared with colleagues), all for his performance in “Game of Thrones”.

Love life and marriage

Jack hasn’t shared many details concerning his love life, but it was still major news when he married Irish girl Roisin O’Mahony in a small ceremony in County Kerry, Ireland on 27 August 2022; in the following a couple of days, social media networks were flooded with pictures which featured Jack and Roisin.

Roisin’s an actress with 12 credits to her name, perhaps known best for starring as Shay in the 2017 short comedy movie “Mild Thing’, which she also directed.

Jack’s yet to mention other girls whom he’s maybe dated, he’s married to Roisin O’Mahony as of April 2023, and doesn’t have children.

Interesting facts and hobbies

Jack once lived in London, England but has since moved to Dublin, the capital of Ireland.

He supported the campaign to annul Ireland’s Eighth Amendment in May 2018; the amendment states that a pregnant woman and her unborn have an equal right to life, which means that an abortion would lead to criminal penalty.

Jack had to quit social media networks because of his role in “Game of Thrones”, but has since returned to Instagram; he’s followed by more than 3,000 people; he’s uploaded only 28 pictures and videos onto the network, most of which show him spending time with friends.

Jack’s favorite actor is Hugh Jackman, while some of his favourite films include “The Front Runner”, “Bad Education” and “The Greatest Showman”.

Jack’s age is 30. He has blue eyes and blonde hair, is 5ft 7ins (1.7m) tall and weighs around 150lbs (68kgs).
