Early life and education

Kristina was raised alongside her brother in California by her father Valmor, and her mother whose name is unknown.

Kristina was physically quite active while growing-up, as she ran cross country and once won a 20 mile race.

She was nine (although other sources claim 11) when she was noticed by a modeling scout, and signed her first modelling contract with her parents’ permission – Kristina was allowed to work as a model only if she promised to stay focused on her education. She was also interested in playing the piano and the violin, and was a multi-instrumentalist by the time she enrolled at a local high school.

Upon matriculation in 2006, she enrolled at University of California, Berkeley from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2010, then went on to also obtain her Master’s degree in financial economics.

Kristina worked as a child and then teen model from January 1997 to February 2002, before focusing on her education. Scott was raised in Windham by his father Paul and mother Virginia. He started reading comics at a very early age, and his favorite was “Peanuts”. When he was six he began drawing his own comics, and 11 when he won his first drawing competition. He was educated at Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School from which he matriculated as valedictorian (best student among 39 people), and then enrolled at Hartwick College from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics in 1979. Scott then moved to California and eventually enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley, from which he graduated with a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in 1986.

From graduation to obtaining his MBA (1979-1986), Scott worked at Crocker National Bank with their telecommunications engineers, and during those years often worked on his comic. He has stated that Dilbert came from Mike Goodwin who was his ex-boss, while Dogbert came from his family’s deceased pet dog Lucy. From 1986 to 1995, Scott worked at Pacific Bell, and in 1989 published his first “Dilbert” comic, for which he received a check for $368.62 – by 1994, 400 newspapers were publishing Scott’s comic.

By 1996 Scott had become a full-time cartoonist, and his comic was featured in around 800 newspapers.

In the same year he published his first book, “The Dilbert Principle”. In 1998, the TV series “Dilbert” began airing, and won Scott a Primetime Emmy Award in 1999, however, it was cancelled the following year. In 2000, it was reported that the comic “Dilbert” was featured in around 2,000 newspapers, translated into 19 languages and sold in 57 countries.
