Early life and education

Johnna was raised as a single child in Los Angeles by her mother Rebecca who is a nurse, and her father who is truck driver. Johnna grew up watching movies with her parents, and thus became interested in acting.

After enrolling at Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences in Oklahoma, she joined its drama club and appeared in several plays performed there, while she was also interested in creative writing, contributing columns to the school’s newspapers. Johnna was also in the school’s choir, and was a member of a jazz band. Upon matriculation, she enrolled at Santa Monica College in California graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in film, cinema, and video studies in 2015.

Career as a writer and other ventures

Johnna launched her career in July 2011, when she started working at Hollister Co. as their sales associate and model, a job she held for two years.

In May 2013, she began working at Rusty’s Surf Ranch as a host trainer, and became a server in February 2014, while simultaneously joining We Are Famous, Inc., working as their assistant producer, notifying actors and actresses of their upcoming auditions, and passing materials to film directors and producers.

In April 2015, Johnna became a Key Holder at the apparel and fashion company Roots, while simultaneously working at William B + Friends as their assistant manager, in charge of stock quantities, day to day operations, and ordering new merchandise. When Duff was 10 his parents divorced, but he stayed in good relations with both of them, often travelling from Northern Virginia to Cape Cod, Massachusetts and vice versa. He studied at McLean High School, where he was a hockey player, and later switched to Sandwich High School from which he matriculated in 1992. He continued his education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 1996.

He was only 14 when he started to work in the kitchen, beginning at a bagel store and then at McDonald’s as a fry cook. While attending college, he applied to work as a chef at a restaurant in Baltimore, but as his résumé wasn’t good enough, they hired him to only make biscuits and cornbread.

He moved to Washington D.C. after graduation, and started working at the restaurant Olives in which he baked the bread.
