Eliza was raised an only child in Los Angeles by her father David Rayfiel who was a writer, known for having worked on the mystery thriller movie “Three Days of the Condor” and the romantic comedy “Sabrina”, and her mother Lila Garrett, who was a film screenwriter, producer and director, perhaps still known for her works on the romantic comedy “The Other Woman”, and the action adventure comedy “Get Smart”.

Eliza became interested in acting thanks to her parents, who often took her on sets of their movies and TV series, and she began appearing in theatre plays while still attending high school. Upon matriculation in 1971, Eliza enrolled at college, but quit two years later to focus on her acting career.
