Parris was very active while growing up as she was outside most of the time playing sports and games with her friends, and attended a local high school at which she was physically active, and where she played whatever sport she was allowed to. She didn’t enroll at a college upon matriculation, but began working, and as she has a hippie soul, she left home at the age of 21 to roam around the US. She returned some years later, and started working at the lesbian restaurant “Old Wives’ Tales”, but was let go due to her playing inappropriate music.

Parris’ career and philanthropy

After that, she started working at the restaurant Sambo before deciding to stop working as a waitress for good, and become a journalist who would run her own live journal, in which she would talk about the details of her everyday life. She soon became a philanthropist, and even for her wedding, Parris asked her guests and fans not to give her presents, but to rather donate money to charities focused on helping animals. She is a huge lover of animals and is a supporter of the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary which aims to help wolf-dogs. Parris has helped and worked with several other charity organizations, such as Pearl Foundation and Meow Wolf.

Love life and marriage with George R. R. Martin

George and Parris met in Nashville in 1975 when he was dating Gale Burnick, which prevented him from dating Parris although he was attracted to her. Parris was attracted to George’s friend Joe Haldeman, and George went on to marry Gale in 1976, but they divorced in 1979, and two years later he got in touch with Parris.

George was living in Santa Fe in New Mexico while Parris lived in Portland, and they both tried convincing the other to move – George convinced her to come and visit him in Santa Fe, she fell in love with his house and the city and stayed there with him.

As they didn’t want to have children straight away, they adopted a kitten which they named Mulligan, but after over 30 years of being together, they married on 15 February 2011. At some point, George and Parris apparently agreed not to have children.

Other interests and hobbies

Parris has been interested in many things including travelling, and as a hippie she has been all around the US before deciding to settle down, but late visited many European and Asian countries with George. She has helped numerous stray animals by opening the doors of her house to them, feeding them and paying for their vaccinations, etc, – although she loves all animals, two of her favorites are dogs and horses.

Who is George R. R. Martin?

George Raymond Martin was born in Bayonne, New Jersey USA, on 20 September 1948 – his zodiac sign is Virgo and he holds American nationality. He is perhaps still best known for his series of novels “A Song of Ice and Fire”, on which the popular fantasy series “Game of Thrones” is based.

George was raised in Bayonne alongside his sisters Darleen and Janet by their mother Margaret Brady Martin, and their father Raymond Collins Martin who was a longshoreman. The family became rich, but after losing everything in the Great Depression, they became very poor. As George wanted to travel but couldn’t afford it, he decided to read books as he heard somewhere that reading books can be the same as travelling.

He started writing, and sold numerous monster stories to his neighbors for several pennies, and was great at creating ‘endless stories’ which would go on and on, and which he would never end. He studied at Mary Jane Donohoe School before switching to Marist High School, at which he began reading comic books and became a huge fan of Marvel Comics. He went on to attend Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, from which he graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism in 1970, while he obtained his Master of Science degree in 1971. He was supposed to be drafted at the time of the Vietnam War but objected, and volunteered for two years at AmeriCorps VISTA.

George went on to teach English at Clarke University, before deciding to work as a full-time writer in 1977 – the cause of this was the death of his closest friend, which led him to think about what he really wanted to do in life. He is known to be very accessible to his fans and is often contributing to his blog “Not a Blog”, while he can be seen attending every comic book and science fiction convention in the USA.

George has been criticized for only one thing – for taking too long between the books in his series “A Song of Ice and Fire”, as six years passed between his fourth and fifth books, however, he has explained that he isn’t solely focused on a single book, but is always working on multiple  volumes.
