Who is George Soros?

György Schwartz, better known as George Soros, was born on 12 August 1930 in Budapest. He has been described as an Hungarian-born American billionaire, philanthropist, and investor. As a Jew, he lived through and survived the Nazi Germany occupation of Hungary.

The year 1947 saw him move to the UK, where he pursued his education at the London School of Economics, and after obtaining his master’s degree started working at merchant banks in the UK. He moved to the US in 1956, and founded Double Eagle, which later became Quantum Fund. This was his first hedge fund, and formed the basis for Soros Fund Management. Quantum Fund has over $25 billion in assets; however, he has contributed over $32 billion to charity.

George took on the Bank of England in 1992 during the Black Wednesday UK Currency Crisis, and became known as ‘The Man Who Broke the Bank of England.’ He did this by cleverly betting on the British pound’s devaluation, and reportedly sold $100 billion worth of Pounds Sterling and made a profit of $1 billion. This historic trade attributed to most of his fortune and fame, and he has continued to increase his wealth, making him one of the World’s most successful self-made billionaires.

Before his marriage to Tamiko, George was married twice, firstly to Annaliese Witschak from 1960 to 1983 which produced three children, Robert Daniel Soros (born 1963), Andrea Soros Colombel (1965), and Jonathan Tivadar Soros (1970).

His second marriage was to Susan Weber Soros, an American historian who was 25 years his junior, and was from 1983 until 2005. They have two sons together – Alexander (born 1985) and Gregory (born 1988).

After his second marriage ended, George dated Brazilian actress Adriana Ferreyr for five years before they broke up in early 2010. It’s reported that he was still going out with Adriana when he started seeing Tamiko.

Career

Soon after graduating, Tamiko began working in a high-end health facility as a pharmacist, while she continued studying, which helped her to also become an education consultant.

She used the knowledge she had acquired from working in the health institution to start an online business selling dietary supplements and vitamins, additionally starting to teach yoga online.

She is a partner at the Soros Fund Management Company, and frequently goes with George all over Europe when he speaks at economic events, often speaking herself at these events as well. Tamiko and George contribute on a regular basis to organizations that are working to alleviate climate change, and the couple attended a UN Summit recently aimed at bringing attention to the issue.

Personal life

Tamiko reportedly married in 1990, but other details such as who her ex-husband is and when they divorced are not known.

George Soros and Tamiko Bolton

Tamiko and George met at a dinner party in 2008, but kept their relationship private until they were seen together at the Paley Center of Media in New York City for “The Intouchables” screening in 2012.

On 10 August 2011, George was hit with a $50 million lawsuit from his former girlfriend, Adriana Ferreyr, which claimed that after not receiving many gifts from him during their time together, he vowed to buy her a $1.9 million Manhattan apartment that she found when looking for real estate. George instead gifted the apartment to Tamiko, who was subsequently slandered by Adriana to her lawyers and the board of the apartment building.

Tamiko was also accused in court of being a gold-digger, due to the large age gap between her and George. Adriana turned violent during the hearing, attacking George and his lawyers physically, prompting George to file a pending motion in hopes of dismissing the lawsuit. When Tamiko and George married, Adriana’s lawyer believed that since Tamiko doesn’t need the apartment, they would be able to come to an agreement and settle the lawsuit; however, Tamiko still owns the apartment.

During a 2012 weekend stay at a beach in the Hamptons, Long Island, George proposed to Tamiko, and the couple announced their engagement in August of that year.
