Who is Simon Cowell?

British businessman, record executive and television personality, Simon Phillip Cowell, was born on 7 October 1959 in Lambeth, London England.

He attended Windsor Technical College, but wasn’t a great student. However, he is the founder, principal and chief executive of Syco, a British entertainment company. He rose to popularity in the 1980s and ‘90s as a talent scout, record producer and music industry consultant. In 2001, Simon and Simon Fuller pitched “Pop Idol” to ITV’s Controller of Entertainment, Claudia Rosencrantz. Simon Fuller was the show’s creator, and Simon Cowell became the first official judge on the panel.

Encouraged by the success of “Pop Idol,” he created “The X Factor” in 2004 and “Got Talent” in 2006, both of which are widely popular and have been sold worldwide.

Time magazine named Simon ‘one of the 100 most influential people in the world’ in 2004, and again in 2010, and was ranked sixth in The Daily Telegraph’s list of the ‘100 most powerful people in British culture’ in 2008, and later that year he received the Special Recognition Award at the National Television Awards. He won the BAFTA Special Award for his ‘development of new talent’, and his ‘outstanding contribution to the entertainment industry’ at the 2010 British Academy Television Awards. In the television category, he received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018.

Simon is best known for being the ‘mean’ judge, as he often insults and laughs at the contestants’ poor auditions – his comments are notorious for being ‘blunt’ and ‘controversial.’

Simon is well versed in both the music and television industries, and shares his knowledge with the shows’ winners, and has promoted and produced albums and singles for the artists who have won or been part of the shows, and were supported by the viewers. Artists he has signed include Noah Cyrus, Little Mix, Susan Boyle, One Direction and Labyrinth. In 2010, he became engaged to Mezhgan Hussainy, but they split in 2011 – Simon later said that their engagement was ‘a big mistake.’ While they were still together, they were seen vacationing with Lauren and Andrew Silverman.

Before his relationship with Lauren, Simon would claim that he did not want children – ‘God, no. I couldn’t have children.

If I had them here drawing on the walls, I’d go nuts.’ His opinion quickly changed following the birth of his son, Eric. He has said that Eric and Lauren have brought so much positivity to his life, that they helped bring him out of his depression and make his life more normal. In interviews, he often gushes about his son and the changes he has brought to his life. As of May 2019, Simon’s net worth is estimated at £385 million, which is more than $450 million.

Lauren is a socialite.

Personal life

While in their early twenties, Lauren met Andrew Silverman through a mutual friend.

The socialite was reportedly head over heels for the banker and property developer, and luckily, he felt the same way. The pair married in 2005 in New York in a Royal Wedding Ceremony, and in 2006, Lauren gave birth to their son, Adam. Sources close to the couple claim that their marriage quickly began to fall apart due to Andrew’s work schedule, which included long office hours, traveling and staying away from home and his family.

Lauren met Simon Cowell through her husband, as they were long-time friends, in 2006 while vacationing at Barbados’ Sandy Lane resort. Her affair with Simon only became public knowledge when they announced that she was 10 weeks pregnant with his baby – they had allegedly been dating for a year before she fell pregnant. The affair came as a massive shock to Andrew, who felt extremely betrayed by both his wife and his best friend.

Andrew was under the impression that their frequent vacations together were due to their close friendship.

According to their divorce papers, Lauren and Andrew decided to split due to her affair with Simon, but Lauren’s father released a statement through the DailyMail, in which he blamed Andrew for the affair. According to her father, Andrew was a ‘cold and careless’ husband who would leave his wife for months at a time to go on business trips. He went on to say that Andrew could not just keep throwing money at her, ‘… she couldn’t cuddle Gucci handbags and credit cards at night.’ During their public divorce, her ex-husband tried his best to remain out of the spotlight, as he considers himself a ‘regular’ person and is not interested in being featured in the media.
