Childhood and education

Ruth spent only the first five years of her childhood in London, as her Irish parents then moved to Monkstown close to Dublin – Ruth has no siblings. She became interested in acting while attending St. Andrew’s College, Blackrock where she was a member of the school’s drama club and appeared in most of the plays performed there. She was also physically active as she played soccer and tennis. Upon matriculation in 2002, she enrolled at Trinity College, Dublin from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama and classics in 2005, then continued her education at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in England from which she graduated in 2009.

Career as an actress

Ruth launched her acting career while attending Trinity College, as she appeared in theatre plays “Man of Mode”, “On the Razzle”, and “Oh! What a Lovely War!” among others.

Ruth made her debut film appearance in 2009, when she portrayed Miriam in the biographical comedy drama movie “Gracie!”, which starred Jane Horrocks, Tom Hollander and Ellie Haddington, and is about Gracie Fields who was a famous English singer and actress who was suffering from cervical cancer – the movie won one award and was nominated for one other.
