Childhood and education

Marco was raised in Salò an only child, by his father who was working as a waiter, and his mother who was a housewife. Marco attended a local elementary school, and was six years old when he began playing soccer, which he would often watch on TV with his father.

Upon enrolling at a local high school, Marco began playing for the school’s soccer team when he was noticed by a scout during one of his matches against another school, and was invited to play for the Venice soccer team in the under 17 (U17) league. Upon matriculation in 1997, Marco decided not to attend college but to focus on his career as a professional soccer player, however, he only played until he turned 21, when he suffered a leg injury which ended his soccer career.
