Early life and education
Virgil was raised an only child in the US by his father who was a boxer, and his mother who was a housewife. There was rarely enough money in the house for both the bills and food which is why Virgil started working as soon as he was capable of earning money, and helping his family.
He attended a local high school at which he was physically very active as he played both football and basketball, but he was a trouble maker as his father had taught him how to fight, and Virgil liked to show off his fighting skills. He quit school before matriculation, and eventually became a boxing coach.
Career as a TV personality
Virgil became an internet sensation after he started coaching the famous boxer Andre Ward, who in 2004 won the Summer Olympics gold medal in the light-heavyweight category. Because of Andre, Virgil guest starred in three episodes of the reality TV series “Fight Camp 360: Inside the Super Six World Boxing Classic”, and in 2011 he appeared in two episodes of the talk show “ESPN Friday Night Fights”.
In the same year, Virgil received the Boxing Writers Association of America Futch-Condon Award for the Trainer of the Year.
Virgil went on to appear in a single episode of the sport series “Golden Boy Boxing”, as well as two episodes of the reality series “HBO Boxing After Dark”. When she was 16, Keyshia joined the East Oakland Youth Development Center at which she practiced singing, then after turning 18, she moved alone to Los Angeles in California to pursue a career as a singer.

It was announced in November 2014 that Keyshia would be starring in her third reality series “Keyshia Cole: All In”, while her fourth reality series “Keyshia Cole: My New Life” aired its first episode in November 2019.
She is also a designer as she has developed her own shoe line with the help of Steve Madden, which includes boots, wedges and high heels.
