She hasn’t said much about her early life, but that she desired to become a singer from an early age. Michel’le started her career as a member of the World Class Wreckin’ Cru music group, consisting of female vocalists who are of Louisiana Creole ancestry. The popular single “Turn Off the Lights” by the group made Michel’le popular and she was then signed to Easy-E’s Ruthless Records.

It was through World Class Cru that she met Dr. Dre.

She was frequently used as a vocalist for Ruthless Records’ produced albums, and in 1989 released her debut album “Michel’le”, produced by Dr. Dre, and which achieved gold status. The album spawned such hits as “No More Lies” – which landed on the 2nd spot on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, and at the No. 7 on of the US Billboard Hot 100 – “Nicety”, Keep Watchin”, and “Something in My Heart”, among others.

Her second album came out only in 1998 “Hung Jury”, then she apparently remained out of music until the early 2010s, when she released her first single “Freedom to Love” in 2011.

Since then, she has released several singles, including “It Still Hurts” (2014), “Moonlight” (2016), used as a soundtrack for the film “Surviving Compton”, among others.

To speak further about her achievements, Michel’le also appeared in the reality show “R&B Divas: Los Angeles” (2013-2015).

Michel’le and Dr. Dre were together from 1988 until 1996; she talked about his abusive behavior towards her that brought the end to their relationship. He would beat her, and during one altercation broke her nose, and she had to have it surgically corrected, also a cracked rib and other injuries.

He even shot at her but missed by a few inches. However, the main reason they broke up was his relationship with another woman, to whom he was also engaged.

Following their split, Michel’le started a year-long self-medication with prescription pills and alcohol. She befriended Deth Row Records CEO and co-founder Suge Knight, who helped her overcome her problems by sending her to rehab. The two married in 1999, despite Knight being incarcerated at the time. Nevertheless, they welcomed a daughter Bailei, but the two divorced in 2005.

It turned out that their marriage was invalid, as Suge Knight was still married to his wife Sharitha. Suge was also abusive – she claimed that he had hit her once, which dislocated her jaw.
