Who is April Bowlby?

She’s an actress with over 30 credits to her name, however, April Bowlby, is perhaps still known best for her portrayal of Stacy Barrett in the series “Drop Dead Diva”. Early life, family, and education

Born April Michelle Bowlby under the zodiac sign of Leo on 30 July 1980, she’s aged 42 as of May 2023. A native of Vallejo, California USA, April holds American nationality and comes from a family of Caucasian descent, raised by her parents, about whom nothing is known, except that the family relocated to Manteca, California when April was a little girl.

There she spent most of her childhood days, studying ballet, learning the French language, and attending East Union High School. April said that she wanted to be a ballerina because she had a fear of speaking in public. Upon matriculating in 1998, April enrolled at Moorpark College, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Science (Marine Biology), in 2002.

When she graduated she began modeling, which led to her pursuing an acting career. April made her acting debut as a Hot Groupie in an episode of the popular crime-drama series “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” in 2004.

She followed with guest roles in “CSI: NY” and “Stacked” in 2005, and later that year, April landed the recurring role as Kandi in the sitcom “Two and a Half Men”, and through 2015, she was seen in 17 episodes of this comedy series. Concurrently, she had another recurring role as Crazy Meg in seven episodes of “How I Met Your Mother”, between 2007 and 2014.

From 2009 to 2014, April played her most notable television series role to date, as Stacy Barret in 78 episodes of “Drop Dead Diva”, a comedy-drama,which followed the story of a sassy fashion model murdered in a car accident who returns to life as an intellectual, overweight lawyer in search of the essence of inner beauty.

In the following years, April made an appearance in “The Big Bang Theory” (2017) and “Heathers” (2018) before she was cast to play Rita Farr in “Doom Patrol”. From 2019 through 2023, she was seen in 40 episodes of this action-adventure comedy, which follows the mad scientist and his super-powered outcasts. April’s character is a former actress whose unique superpowers are hard to control. In one of her interviews, April said that she enjoys playing this character because everything she got to do is exaggerated, and she can go as big as she wants since she plays an actress, and as she put it, that’s what actresses do.

April stars opposite Matt Bomer and Diane Guerrero, and the series had 15 award nominations, including one for Primetime Emmy, and won two.

Roles in movies

April made her first movie appearance as Heather in the 2007 TV drama “Sands of Oblivion”, before in the following year making her big-screen debut as Natasha in “All Roads Lead Home”, a family drama that won the International Family Film Festival award for Best Feature Drama.

April followed with her role as Mia in the 2009 comedy “The Slammin’ Salmon”, then was next cast to play Olivia in “From Prada to Nada” in 2011. Five years later, April was seen as Rachel Wilson in “Marriage of Lies”, in which she starred opposite Corin Nemec and Virginia Williams; The film follows the story of a woman who, after her husband disappears, becomes the prime suspect. In an attempt to prove her innocence, she reveals details about the life of the man she was married to, however, it had no nominations and was poorly rated by the audience.

April was next cast to play Alyssa in the 2017 romantic drama “Love’s Last Resort”, followed by her roles in the 2018 movies “The Wrong Daughter”, “Homecoming Revenge”, and “Unbroken: Path to Redemption”.

Most recently, she was seen as Jackie in the 2021 movie “Father Christmas Is Back”, also starring John Cleese, Kelsey Grammer, and Elizabeth Hurley. It was a family comedy centered around four sisters who were reunited after many years, and although it had no nominations, the audience loved this heartwarming story.

Love life and relationships

Matthew Cooke is a filmmaker and writer, perhaps known best for his movies such as “How to Make Money Selling Drugs”, which brought him Champs-Elysees Film Festival Audience Award for Best American Feature Film, and his documentary “Deliver Us from Evil”, which earned him a nomination for Gotham Award-Best Documentary.

As of May 2023, April and Matthew are still married, and the family of three lives in their residence in Los Angeles, California.
