Cynthia has been retired from acting for over 10 years now, and is leading an apparently quiet life with her pets in Los Angeles, California.

Childhood and education

Cynthia was raised alongside her younger sister in Los Angeles, by their father who was a pianist and their mother who was a teacher at a local high school.

Cynthia grew up wanting to become a model, and spent most of her free time exercising so as to look fit for her first casting. However, somewhere along the way she decided to focus on her education, and upon matriculation in 1984, she enrolled at a college from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988.

She spent the following five years working at several jobs while attending auditions, and her acting career was launched in 1993, when she portrayed The Woman at Elevator in the crime drama thriller “Carlito’s Way” – the film starred Al Pacino, Sean Penn and Penelope Ann Miller and was a big hit, winning two awards while it was nominated for seven others, including two Golden Globes.

Roles in TV series

She made her debut TV series appearance in 1995, when cast to guest star as Bethany in the episode “Gracie Under Fire” of the comedy “Maybe This Time”, starring Marie Osmond, Betty White and Ashley Johnson, and which follows Julia Wallace, a divorced woman who is running a family coffee shop, while her mother is urging her to find new love.

Cynthia went on to appear in single episodes of several series, such as the episode “Too Hip for the Room” of the romantic comedy “Ellen” and the episode “The Loop” of the comedy “Champs” both in 1996, and the episode “Whose Appy Now” of the romantic drama “ER” in 1997. She was then invited to play Tiki in the comedy series “Temporarily Yours” but which ended after airing six episodes, while her following appearance was in the episode “A Little Tail” of the comedy drama “Maximum Bob” in 1998.

Cynthia played Melissa Larson in the romantic comedy “Mad About You” in 1999 which starred Paul Reiser, Helen Hunt and John Pankow, and is about the life of a married couple in New York City, and she then appeared in only a single episode of many series, such as the romantic comedy “Dharma & Greg”, the comedy crime drama “Snoops” and the action crime drama “Nash Bridges”. She starred as Annie in the episodes “Don Juan in Hell: Part 2” and “The Ski Lodge” of the comedy “Frasier” and was then cast to portray Mary Jo Zimmerman in the episode “Wrong Place, Wrong Time” of the crime drama mystery “Crossing Jordan”.

Cynthia met her spouse Aaron Zelman at a party organized by a mutual friend in 2003, and they began dating around two weeks later.

Aaron is a film writer and producer, who is best known for having produced the crime drama mystery series “The Killing”, and the crime mystery series “Damages” – for his works, he has been nominated for six awards including two Primetime Emmys.

They married in a private ceremony attended by their closest friends and family in 2006. Cynthia and Aaron agreed not to have children so as to focus on their careers, but after more than two years of being together, they divorced quietly without letting the public know about it – it was only several months later that Cynthia revealed in an interview that she was single.
