Who is James Wlcek?

James Wlcek was born in New York City, USA, on 22 February 1964 – his zodiac sign is Pisces and he holds American nationality. He is an actor, perhaps still best known for his portrayal of Ben Shelby in the romantic drama series “Ryan’s Hope”, which aired from 1975 to 1989 and starred Nancy Addison, Michael Levin and Helen Gallagher; the series followed the working class family Ryans, and won 29 awards while being nominated for 47 others.

There have been rumors circulating the internet that James has retired from acting, however, he is still active in the film industry, and has in 2019 portrayed one of the lead characters, Deputy Grant in the action horror western movie “Howlers” written and directed by Josh Ridgway – the movie also starred Sean Patrick Flanery and Chad Michael Collins.

Childhood and education

James grew up being interested in acting, and not long after enrolling at an elementary school, he started appearing in school plays, and soon also in plays performed at a local theatre. He became interested in martial arts after enrolling at a local high school, and subsequently took martial arts classes for over 30 years – his fighting skills can be noticed in the movies and TV series he has appeared in. James matriculated in 1982, and then enrolled at a college from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1985, however, he decided to focus on his acting career rather than to work in his field of study.

Career as an actor

James launched his acting career in 1987 when he guest starred as Claude Altoose in the episode “The Swap” of the comedy fantasy series “Tales from the Darkside”. In 1989 he portrayed Jack Gibson in two episodes of the critically acclaimed romantic series “One Life to Live”.

He made his debut film appearance that year when he portrayed the supporting character Marshall Marmillion in the romantic comedy film “Steel Magnolias”, which starred Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis and Sally Field, and is about a young beautician who moves to a small town in Louisiana, and joins a small group of women who know everyone and everything in town.

The year 1990 saw James portray Linc Lafferty in seven episodes of the romantic series “As the World Turns”, which aired from 1956 to 2010 and counted over 3500 episodes. Later in the decade he guest starred as Clancy in the episode “Last Breath” of the action crime series “Baywatch Nights”, and portrayed Eric in the mystery movie “Damien’s Seed”, but which failed to attract much attention.

In 1997, James was invited to appear in a single episode of the action adventure series “L.A. Firefighters”, and then showed his fighting skills in the action adventure series “Walker, Texas Ranger”, which starred the martial artist Chuck Norris.

In 1999, James starred as Trent Malloy in all six episodes of the action crime series “Sons of Thunder”, while the following years saw him appear in single episodes of several series, such as “JAG” in 2002 and “The Division” in 2003. He made an uncredited appearance in the romantic comedy movie “Little Black Book” in 2004, and the following year saw him portray Yale in the drama movie “Don’t Tell”. In 2009, he was invited to appear in the action adventure fantasy movie “Hydra”, which received mostly negative reviews, and two years later he played The Landowner in the romantic western movie “Love’s Christmas Journey”.

Three of James’ most recent roles (besides “Howlers” in 2019) have been in the action western film “Shadow on the Mesa” in 2013 as Ranch Hand, in the the science fiction movie “The Palmer Supremacy” in 2014, in which he played one of the lead characters, John Merrit, and the science fiction movie “The Sector” in 2016, appearing as Brennan.

Love life and relationships

In 1993, James met Susan Broccoli at a party organized by a mutual friend who introduced the two –they started dating only days later, and after four years of being together, they married in a private ceremony attended by their closest friends and family.

Susan is a photographer specializing in product photography, and has worked with many British and Italian hotels and restaurants, while she has had exhibitions in both the US and the UK. In 1999, Susan gave birth to their first child and two years later, their second child followed – both of their children are martial artists, and aren’t interested in becoming actors.

James hasn’t talked about any women he might have been with before meeting Susan, and there have been no rumors nor controversy surrounding his marriage with Susan. As of August 2020, he is married and has two children.

Hobbies and other interests

James was physically very active during his 20s and 30s, as he had several training sessions at the gym each week, played football and soccer, and often went swimming and running.
