Early life and education
Joyce was raised as a single child in New York City by her Jewish parents – her father was the owner of a small jewelry store, while her mother was a nurse working at a local hospital.
Joyce grew up being interested in acting and modelling, and while attending a local high school she was a member of the drama club, appearing in nearly all the plays before matriculating in 1975. She also worked on her singing skills, and tried to learn to play the piano, but after finding out she had no talent, she focused on listening to music rather than creating it.
Roles in films
Joyce worked several jobs to financially support herself, before she made her debut film appearance portraying Brenda Weintraub in the teen comedy film “The Hollywood Knights” in 1980, followed by her roles in “They All Laughed” in 1981, and “Valley Girl” in 1983.
She portrayed Linda in the dance musical “Staying Alive”, which starred John Travolta and Cynthia Rhodes and was directed by Sylvester Stallone. The year 1984 saw her star as Belinda in the mockumentary movie “This is Spinal Tap”, and she then appeared in “Just One of the Guys” as Terry Griffith, the role changed her life. The movie starred Joyce as Terry who, after losing two jobs to two boys, decides to pretend to be a guy at her high school, by dressing up and cutting her hair short. Joyce met Bruce Springsteen at a party while he was on his tour around the USA in 1978 – Bruce asked their mutual friend Gary Busey to introduce them, and Joyce ended up spending the rest of Bruce’s tour with him. It is widely believed that the two broke-up as soon as the tour was finished, but kept in touch and occasionally saw one another for several years after.
A year after her and Bruce’s fling ended, she met Warren Beatty, an American actor and producer, when she appeared in one of his movies. Warren wasn’t loyal to his girlfriends in the past, and Joan Collins, the actress he dated before meeting Joyce, had an abortion after he impregnated her, and left him because he was unfaithful.
Warren and Joyce dated for a year before splitting ways and in 1992, he married Anette Bening – they have four children together.
Joyce is currently single, hasn’t married, and has no children.
Hobbies and other interests
Joyce has always been interested in music, and her taste changed as the years went by.
