Sarah was raised in Detroit alongside her brother Steven, by their father who was a factory worker, and their mother who was a cashier at a local market.

She became interested in acting at a very early age, as she would often watch movies and TV series with her family. Upon enrolling at a local high school, Sarah was encouraged by her school teacher to join the school’s drama club and practice her acting skills, and she went on to appear in several plays performed at the school. Upon matriculation in 2005, she found a job to financially support herself, and didn’t enroll at a college.

The family moved to Las Vegas in Nevada not long after Brendon turned two, and he attended Palo Verde High School at which he met Brent Wilson who would later become a guitarist of the band Panic! at the Disco. To pay for a place to practice with his band, Brendon worked at a café and occasionally sang for his customers – he matriculated in 2005, and then chose not to enroll at a college but to focus on his singing career.
