Early Life and Education

While Rich was born in Toledo, his family later moved to Stillwater, Minnesota where he grew up. There he attended Stillwater Area High School where he developed an interest in the performing arts. After matriculating he pursued this interest, enrolling at Concordia College located in nearby Moorhead, where he took up a course in theatre. The private college was established by settlers from Norway in the late 1800s.

During his time there, he was active with The Concordia Choir, a mixed choir that performs regularly on campus.

After completing his degree, he furthered his training by studying improvisation in Minneapolis, leading him to eventually start an improv group. He also his studies, enrolling at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland to complete a Master of Fine Arts in acting. Rich married Virginia Donohoe in 2005, just before his rise to fame as an actor, and they have two children together. They currently reside in Los Angeles.
