Growing up and education
Sebastian is being raised by his mother Amber Rose, an American model and actress, as Amber filed for divorce on 24 September 2014 citing ‘irreconcilable differences’. His father and Amber married in a private ceremony on 8 July 2013 – neither of the two have remarried – they have joint custody over Sebastian, but Wiz rarely sees his son as he is busy with his singing career.
Talking about his son’s education, Wiz has stated he will be there to pay for Sebastian’s college tuition if he decides to pursue a college degree, which he would like but he would also be proud if he was to become a singer and a rapper as his father.
Hobbies and other interests
Sebastian has already shown an interest in soccer, and is practicing it at his elementary school with his peers – he also spends a lot of his spare time outdoors playing street soccer. His father has taken him to his concerts and studios on multiple occasions, but Sebastian doesn’t seem to be interested in rap music. Cameron Jibril Thomaz was born in Minot, North Dakota USA, on 8 September 1987 – his zodiac sign is Virgo and he holds American nationality. He is a rapper, singer and a songwriter, who gained recognition after his first album came out entitled “Show and Prove” on 5 September 2006.
Wiz was raised all around the US and Europe. As both his parents served in the military, and thus he got to live in Germany, the UK and Japan, before the family moved to Pittsburgh. His parents divorced when he was three years old, and custody of Wiz was given to his mother. He studied at Taylor Allderdice High School where he became interested in rapping, and started writing his own lyrics.
He chose the word ‘Khalifa’ as his stage name which means ‘successor’ in Arabic, and had it tattooed (his first tattoo) when he turned 17.
Wiz was 16 years old when he met Benjy Grinberg, the president of Rostrum Records, and Benjy instantly signed him after reading some of his lyrics. His debut mixtape – “Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania” – came out in 2005, then in 2007 he signed a contract with Warner Bros. Records, releasing two mixtapes under them: “Grow Season” on 4 July 2007 and “Prince of the City 2” on 20 November 2007. His debut single, “Say Yeah” followed not long after, and peaked at #25 on the Billboard Rhythmic Top 40, and #20 on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks.
In September, his next mixtape came out entitled “Star Power”, and was followed by another mixtape “Flight School” in April 2009. Not long after that, Wiz left Warner Bros. Records as he had problems with the release of his debut album under them.
His new mixtape, “How Fly” came out on 9 August 2009, followed by “Burn After Rolling” on 2 November 2009, and his second studio album “Deal or No Deal” was released on 24 November 2009. To show appreciation to his fans, his new mixtape “Kush and Orange Juice” was made available for free download on 14 June 2010, and it became the most talked about thing on Twitter as well as the #1 Google Hot Search Trend.
He signed a contract with Atlantic Records, and embarked on his first tour during which he was to visit 50 cities – he was actually arrested in East Carolina for possession of marijuana, and released on $300,000 bail the following morning.
His first single under Atlantic Records – “Black and Yellow” – came out on 14 September 2010, and topped the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart. On 29 March 2011, his new studio album was released entitled “Rolling Papers” and it peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 Chart.
He followed with his new album “Only Nigga In First Class” on 11 April 2012, which peaked at #2 on Billboard 200 Chart as well. On 20 April 2013, his extended play (EP) “Live in Concert” was released, comprising seven tracks, and a year later his new studio album followed, entitled “Black Hollywood”.
He went on to release several digital singles, such as “We Dem Boyz” and “See You Again”, and his EP “Talk About It in the Morning” came out on 31 March 2015. Wiz was again arrested for marijuana possession in May 2015, but several days after his releas his next mixtape came out – ironically entitled “28 Grams”.
On 15 December 2015, he released his new mixtape “Cabin Fever 3”, which was followed by his new album “Khalifa” on 5 February 2016.
In 2016, Wiz sued Benjy after having worked with him for around 10 years, asking for $1 million plus attorney fees. Most recently on 20 April 2020, Wiz released his latest EP “The Saga of Wiz Khalifa”.
Wiz smokes cannabis on a daily basis, which in the past was an expensive habit, but is today sponsored by The Cookie Company which gives it to him for free. He is interested in martial arts, and has been practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu since May 2017 – he has also tried Muay Thai.
