Alyna first came to fame when she represented Cambodia at the World Miss University 2017. Although having a good start, she only placed at the Top 16 of the competition, which was won by Cuban pageant, Claudia Moras Baez.
The 18-year-old pageant then competed in the Miss Universe Cambodia 2019. She beat Thoung Mala, John Sotima, Po Kimtheng Sothida, and Kacjnak Thyda Bon in the final five and won the Miss Universe Cambodia 2019. Furthermore, as per the tradition, Miss Universe Cambodia 2018, Rern Sinat crowned Somnang as the Miss Universe Cambodia 2019.

After winning the title, Somnang advanced to compete for the Miss Universe 2019 to represent Cambodia. But unfortunately, she was unable to place at the top 20 of the competition.
