Hope Amelia Solo is an American former soccer goalkeeper. She is regarded as one of the top female goalkeepers of all time and currently holds the U.S. record for most career clean sheets. As a youth, she played football at Richland High School where she scored 109 goals, leading her team to three consecutive league titles from 1996 to 1998 and a state championship during her senior year. She also played club soccer for the Three Rivers Soccer Club in the Tri-Cities. She then attended the University of Washington from 1999 to 2002 where she switched permanently to goalkeeper under the lead of head coach Lesle Gallimore and goalkeeper coach and former national team player, Amy Griffin. After playing at the collegiate level for the University of Washington, she played professionally for the Philadelphia Charge in the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA). She then played for Kopparbergs/Goteborg, Olympique Lyon, Saint Louis Athletica, Atlanta Beat, magicJack, Seattle Sounders Women, and Seattle Reign.  

On the international level, she has represented the United States at various age levels. She has represented United States at U16, U19, U21, and the senior level. She was a goalkeeper for the United States women’s national soccer team from 2000 to 2016. She made her international team debut in April 2000. She helped the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team bring home the gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, and again four years later at the 2012 Summer Games in London. In 2015, he delivered a near-record performance to help the U.S. team win the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Her time with the national team ended after controversial comments during the 2016 Olympics, and she later filed a lawsuit against U.S. Soccer over unequal payment for male and female players.
