Who is Bokeem Woodbine?
American actor Bokeem Woodbine was born in New York City USA on 13 April 1973, making Aries his zodiac sign. He’s had roles in more than 100 movies and TV series, and is probably known best for playing Herman Schultz in the 2017 action science fiction adventure movie “Spider-Man: Homecoming”, which starred Michael Keaton and Tom Holland, and was directed by Jon Watts. It follows the life of Peter Parker as he’s protecting New York City from a new villain, and the movie won seven of its 17 award nominations.
Education and early life
Bokeem and his sister were raised in New York City by their parents about whom Bokeem’s yet to speak in public because he respects their privacy, but it’s believed that their father’s a businessman, and their mother an actress.
Bokeem studied at Dalton School prior to transferring to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts; he was passionate about martial arts while growing up, practicing both Shaolin Kung-Fu and Hapkido.
Bokeem matriculated in 1991, and was then encouraged by his mother to pursue a career in the movie industry, rather than to go after a college degree.
Roles in TV series
Bokeem’s debut TV series role was playing Steve Newberg in the 1993 episode “Love Off Limits” of the adventure comedy “CBS Schoolbreak Special”, and the year 1995 saw him play Sammom Roque in the episode “The List” of the crime mystery “The X-Files”.
The remainder of the ‘90s saw Bokeem appear in an episode of several series, including the crime dramas “New York Undercover” and “The Sopranos”, while the year 2000 saw him star as Detective Derek Finley in all the seven episodes of the crime comedy “Battery Park”, which also starred Louis Ferreira and Frank Grillo, and was created by Gary David Goldberg. It follows the life of a female police captain, and the series was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series (Henry Winkler).
The first half of the 2000s saw Bokeem appear in an episode of three series: the crime action comedy “Fastlane”, the crime action “CSI: Miami”, and the crime comedy “Bones”. From 2007 through 2009, he played Leon Cooley in 28 episodes of the popular fantasy “Saving Grace”, which starred Leon Rippy and Holly Hunter, and was created by Nancy Miller. The series follows an angel who’s offered redemption to a police detective, it aired from 2007 through 2010 and won five of the 23 awards for which it was nominated.

Bokeem played supporting characters in several series in the 2010s, such as the historical adventure “Underground”, the crime drama “Snowfall”, and the biographical crime drama “Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B. I. G.”. From 2015 through 2020, he played Mike Milligan in 11 episodes of the crime thriller “Fargo”, which today stars Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton, and was created by Noah Hawley. It follows the people living in Fargo, North Dakota, the series has been airing since 2014, and has won 62 of its 309 award nominations.
Bokeem’s since appeared in only two TV series: he played Soren-066 in nine episodes of the 2022 action science fiction adventure “Halo”, and Robot Don Cornelius in seven episodes of the 2023 biographical drama “Wu-Tang: An American Saga”.
Roles in movies
Bokeem’s film debut was playing Diquan Mitchell in the 1993 action “Strapped”, while some of his following roles were in the comedy “Crooklyn”, the romantic crime drama “Jason’s Lyric” both in 1994, and the 1995 drama “Panther”.
In 1996, he portrayed Sergeant Crisp in the critically acclaimed action adventure thriller “The Rock”, which starred Nicolas Cage and Sean Connery, and was directed by Michael Bay. It follows a chemist and a former convict as they’re trying to stop a terrorist organization from releasing nerve gas from Alcatraz, and the film won nine of the 18 awards for which it was nominated, including an Oscar nomination for Best Sound. Some of Bokeem’s notable performances in the remainder of the decade were in the 1996 comedy “The Elevator”, the 1998 crime thriller “Caught Up”, and the 1999 fantasy horror “Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies”.
He starred as Cole in the 2002 war action “Sniper 2”, which also starred Erika Marozsan and Tom Berenger, and was directed by Craig R. Baxley. It follows Sergeant Beckett who’s embarked on his last mission, to assassinate a repressive terrorist leader, and the film was nominated for a Motion Picture Sound Editors Award for Best Sound Editing. The remainder of the decade saw Bokeem appear in only a couple of popular movies, such as the 2004 biographical musical “Ray”, which won Oscars for Best Achievement in Sound Mixing and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (Jamie Foxx), the 2008 drama “The Poker House”, and the 2009 action comedy “Black Dynamite”.
The year 2013 saw him play Nate in the hit action adventure “The Host”, which starred Max Irons and Saoirse Ronan, and was written and directed by Andrew Niccol. It follows a group of people fighting an unseen enemy, which takes control of human bodies and erases their memories; the movie won one of its three award nominations.
In 2018, Bokeem portrayed Sergeant Rensin in the action science fiction horror “Overlord”, which starred Wyatt Russell and Jovan Adepo, and was directed by Julius Avery. It follows a group of American soldiers fighting behind enemy lines on D-Day, and the film won two of its nine award nominations.
Some of Bokeem’s most recent film roles have been in the 2021 adventure fantasy comedy “Ghostbusters: Afterlife”, the 2022 drama “The Inspection”, and the 2023 drama “Earth Mama”; he’s currently shooting for the upcoming movie “Old Dads”.
Other credits
Bokeem sang the “Racing Song” in the 2010 horror thriller movie “Wreckage”.
He produced the 2015 action thriller movie “AWOL-72”.
Bokeem received special thanks for the 2014 short romantic movie “C’est la Vie”, and the 2018 fantasy comedy film “Sorry to Bother You”.

Love life and marriage
Although he’s doing his best to keep his love life away from media, it’s still widely known that Bokeem’s a married man and the father of two. He and non-celebrity American Mahiely Roberts married in a private ceremony in 1999, attended by only their closest family members; Mahiely announced her pregnancy on 15 September 2010, and gave birth in the following year. She and Bokeem have another child together, but they’ve managed to keep their children’s names and birthdates hidden from the media’s attention.
Bokeem’s yet to mention other women whom he’s perhaps dated, he’s married to Mahiely Woodbine as of May 2023, and they have two children together.
Interesting facts and hobbies
Bokeem’s passionate about music, and has stated that ‘music is math, music is spiritual’.
Although he often plays people who rob banks and chop other people’s heads off, Bokeem’s revealed that he’s quite a peaceful man and enjoys spending his spare time reading a book or watching a TV show with his children.
More than 2,000 people are following Bokeem on Instagram today, as he’s posted only four pictures onto the network; his previous account was followed by nearly a million people, but it’s been deactivated for unknown reasons.
He’s revealed that he was arrogant and cocky when he was younger.
Bokeem’s travelled to many US states, mostly to shoot for his movies, and he’s also vacationed in a number of South American and European countries.
One of his favorite actors is Denzel Washington, and some of his favorite movies include “The Bone Collector”, “John Q.” and “Inside Man”.
