Who is Emily Althaus?

Emily Althaus was born in Louisville, Kentucky USA, on 25 November 1986 – her zodiac sign is Sagittarius and she holds American nationality. She is an actress who became popular after she portrayed Mauren Kukudio in the comedy crime series “Orange Is the New Black”, starring Taylor Schilling, Danielle Brooks and Taryn Manning, and which is about a man who is sent to jail for a crime he committed over 10 years ago – the series was a huge success as it won 50 awards, and was nominated for 136 others including six Golden Globes.

Early life, family and education

Emily was raised an only child in Louisville, by her father who was a police officer and her mother who worked at a local thrift shop.

Emily was a very active kid, as she would run around and explore her surroundings, and this continued when she enrolled at an elementary school. She became interested in acting when she was 13 years old, and started watching movies and TV series every day. Emily attended DuPont Manual High School at which she was a member of the school’s drama club, and appeared in many plays performed there.

After matriculation in 2005, she enrolled at Western Kentucky University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Performing Arts in 2009.

Movie roles

Emily changed several jobs between 2009 and 2013, simultaneously working and attending auditions for roles in both movies and TV series – she made her debut film appearance in 2013, when she portrayed Krista in the comedy film “Sharing” written by Damian Lanigan, who also starred in the movie.

She played a small role in the 2016 comedy movie “Better Off Single”, and the following year saw her play the supporting character Kelly in the drama series “The Strange Ones”.

Emily starred in two short comedy movies in 2018: “Martini Night” which was written and directed by Jacob Halpren, and “Gifted” written and directed by John F. Beach and Jonathan Hoeg. In 2019, she appeared in the horror mystery thriller movie “Body at Brighton Rock”, before starring as Jenny in the comedy film “Smoked”.

Two of Emily’s most recent appearances in movies were in 2019, in two short films entitled “June” and “The Dig”, and she has recently been cast to appear in the upcoming mystery movie “Salvage”, as well as the short film “Claire at Seven Months”, in which she will be portraying the titular character Claire.

Emily made her debut TV series appearance in 2015, when she portrayed Christina Henley in the episode “Payback” of the critically acclaimed crime mystery series “Blue Bloods”, which has been airing since 2010. In the same year she guest starred as Antonia in a single episode of the comedy series “The Impossibilities”, and as Jessie in two episodes of the crime series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”.

Emily’s first notable performance was in 2016, when she portrayed the supporting character Natalie in three episodes of the romantic comedy series “Togetherness”. The following year she appeared in single episodes of several series, including “Adam Ruins Everything”, “Mental” and “You’re the Worst”.

In 2018, she guest starred as Nurse Tiffany in the episode “Identity Crisis” of the drama series “The Resident”, and in 2019 appeared in two episodes of the fantasy mystery series “The Magicians” and the episode “Unfit” of the science fiction thriller series “The Handmaid’s Tale”.

Emily has recently been cast to appear in two upcoming series: the comedy “Tethered” and the science fiction series “Ray James”.

Love life and husband

Emily hasn’t talked about any men she might have dated since she started acting, and this has started inevitable rumors about her being lesbian – some of her fans have claimed to have seen her being rather too intimate with a girl at a local club in Los Angeles, California. Conversely, another rumor has it that Emily has secretly been seeing someone for the past five years, and that the man became her husband in 2017 after they exchanged vows in a small ceremony attended by their closest friends and family – some of the people who started these rumors believe that the two also divorced, in the second half of 2019.

Emily hasn’t commented on the rumors related to her love life, nor her sexual orientation, and as of August 2020, she is single, hasn’t (or isn’t) married, and doesn’t have children.

Hobbies and other interests

Emily is a philanthropist who has attended numerous charity events, and donated money to war veterans and underprivileged children on multiple occasions. She supports the movement Black Lives Matter, and joined in the march organized in Washington Park while she also Twittered her support on the internet. She is fighting for the rights of people suffering from mental health issues, and has stated how her mother suffered from sleep disorder, and how it was hard to help her in a society which stigmatized her condition.

She is also a lover of animals and has had several pets taken from a local animal shelter.

Emily’s main hobby is travelling, and she’s been all around the world for both work and pleasure. She has her own favorite actor and actress who are Leonardo DiCaprio and Emma Watson, and some of her favorite movies are “Titanic”, “Inception” and “The Art of Getting By”.
