Who is Noah Ringer?

Noah Ringer is a young American actor as well as a martial artist, who is probably best known for starring in the leading role of the Avatar Aang in the 2010 fantasy action movie “The Last Airbender”. Additionally, he is widely recognized for portraying the character of Emmett Taggart in the 2011 Sci-Fi western thriller movie entitled “Cowboys and Aliens”.

Early Life and Bio

Noah Andrew Ringer was born under the zodiac sign of Scorpio on the 18th November 1996, in Dallas, Texas USA.

Apart from being of American nationality and white ethnicity, he is also of some Native American as well as German ancestry, while having small elements of Scottish, Irish and English descent as well. Speaking of his educational background, he was homeschooled.

Martial Arts

At the age of 10, Noah’s mother took him to taekwondo classes. Growing up away from the usual school atmosphere, and being quite a shy child, at the start he reluctantly agreed before beginning to like the world of martial arts.

He is a practitioner at the American Taekwondo Association’s (ATA) Martial Arts school based in Carrollton, Texas. As a promising student he made his professional taekwondo debut appearance at the World Championship tournament event held in Arkansas, where he won the first place in every category that he competed in. Mesmerized by the extreme routines performed by the more experienced competitors, he then began practicing Extreme Martial Arts (XMA), and devised his own routine choreographies. At the age of just 12, young Noah became the holder of first degree black belt.

By that time he had already participated in over 25 tournaments, earning an impressive total of 100 medals of which 80 were gold.

In February 2008, Ringer was honored with the ATA’s Competitor of the Year Award by the state of Texas, after which he went on to win five Texas State Champion’s titles in categories such as Sparring, Traditional Weapons, Traditional Forms as well as X-Treme Weapons and X-Treme Forms. In October 2008, young Noah earned his second degree black belt in taekwondo.

Acting Career

In July 2008, the ATA informed Noah’s instructor Master Eric Pechacek that they were looking for students interested in auditioning for a potential role in the fantasy movie “The Last Airbender”. Supported by Noah’s parents, Pechacek encouraged him to give it a go, so Noah filmed a demo video wearing his self-made Avatar costume, which he’d previously used for Halloween; he demonstrated his martial arts skills using a bō staff, performing an XMA Jahng Bong routine.

In addition, he recited a few lines of text, and a month later, Ringer was invited to Philadelphia, where he met with the movie director M. Night Shyamalan – he was subsequently cast to portray the leading character of Aang. Lacking any acting experience, Noah then joined the Young Actors Studio & Performing Arts Center in Dallas, Texas, where he spent the following month under the close supervision of its president Linda Seto, undergoing an intense acting course that helped him to prepare for filming.

Additionally, he expanded his martial arts portfolio with several new disciplines, such as T’ai Chi, Baguazhang and Choy Li Fut Kung Fu.

Ringer starred in the role of the last surviving Airbender, a 12-year old boy named Aang, whose task is to master the four elements, and reinstate peace between the Fire Nation, Water Tribes and the Earth Kingdom. For his performance in the critically acclaimed “The Last Airbender”, based on an eponymous Nickelodeon animated series, Noah Ringer was nominated in the category of the Best Performance in a Feature Film – Leading Young Actor.

Later that year, he provided Aang’s voice in “The Last Airbender” video game.

With his popularity on the rise, in 2011 he was cast for the role of Emmett Taggart opposite Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde in the Sci-Fi western thriller blockbuster film “Cowboys & Aliens”.

In 2011 he appeared in Conan O’Brien’s TV talk show, while in 2015 he was featured in a couple of episodes of the TV show “The Art Craze”.

Personal Life

Not much has been revealed regarding Noah’s personal life, however, it’s known that apart from martial arts, he also enjoys several other sports activities, such as basketball, tennis and golf as well as some more extreme sports such as skiing and wrestling.
