Who is Sara Kapfer?

Sara Kapfer is a former school teacher, who came into prominence for being previously married to an American Oscar-winning movie star – an actor, screenwriter, producer as well as a director, Cuba Gooding Jr. Their marriage lasted for 20 years, between 1994 and 2014, during which they welcomed three children.

Early Life

Sara was born in 1969 in New York City, and is of American nationality and white ethnicity.

Later that year, the couple welcomed their first son they named Spencer, and n the following years were blessed with two more children, another son named Mason who was born in 1996 and a daughter named Piper, born in 2005.

Although it all seemed perfect and was going to last forever, only a month after their 20th anniversary in April 2014, Sara filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences as the main reason behind the separation, and asking for the full custody over Mason and Piper. Aside from official reasons, there was also a matter of Cuba’s alleged infidelity, claiming that he cheated on Sara on several occasions. Two years later, after making an attempt to reconcile with Sara, which she refused, Cuba was forced to eventually sign the divorce papers in 2017.

However, nowadays, almost three years later, Cuba and Sara are still fighting over custody, and still haven’t reached a divorce settlement.

Cuba Mark Gooding Jr. was born on the 2nd January 1968, in New York City’s borough of The Bronx, one of four children in a family of musicians – his mother Shirley Sullivan is a singer while his father Cuba Gooding Sr. was widely recognized as the frontman of The Main Ingredient soul music band. Apart from being of American nationality and African American ethnicity, Cuba is also of some Barbadian ancestry through his father’s side.

At his age of four, after transferring to Los Angeles, California, Cuba’s father left the family, so he was raised alongside his siblings – a sister April and brothers Omar and Thomas by their single mother. In addition to attending North Hollywood High School, he also went to Apple Valley High School, John F. Kennedy High School and Tustin High School.

Cuba began his career in the entertainment industry in the mid-1980s as a break-dancer.

After performing alongside Lionel Richie at the 1984 Summer Olympics’ closing ceremony, he went on to study martial arts for the next three years, before pursuing a career in the movie-making industry. As an actor he debuted in 1986 in an episode of the TV series “Better Days”, and in the following years, he honed his acting skills primarily through a streak of small screen appearances. He stepped into the limelight in 1991, when he was cast for the role of Tre Styles in the Oscar-nominated crime drama film “Boyz n the Hood”.

He then appeared in the “MacGyver” TV series as well as in several memorable and major roles in movies such as “Gladiator” (1992), the Oscar-nominated thriller movie “A Few Good Men” (1992), “Judgment Night” (1993) and “Outbreak” (1995). The real breakthrough in Cuba’s career occurred in 1996, when he starred as Rod Tidwell opposite Tom Cruise and Renée Zellweger in the Oscar-winning romantic comedy drama film “Jerry Maguire”. For this performance he was nominated for a Golden Globe as well as Academy Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role – his character’s line “Show me the money!” became ‘a nationwide catchphrase‘.

With his popularity on the rise, through the 2000s he appeared in several critically praised blockbusters such as “Men of Honor” (2000), “Pearl Harbor” (2001), “Zoolander” (2001), as well as “Radio” (2003) and “American Gangster” (2007). In 2012 Cuba starred in the WWII action drama movie “Red Tails”, which was followed by the main role in the 2013 drama movie “Life of a King”. He also appeared opposite Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey in the BAFTA Award-nominated 2013 biographical drama movie “Lee Daniel’s The Butler”, after which he starred in the drama film “Freedom” in 2014.
