Who is Luke Newton?

British actor Luke Paul Anthony Newton (ne Atkinson) was born in Brighton, England on 5 February 1993, making Aquarius his zodiac sign. He’s had roles in only six TV series and three movies, and is perhaps known best for playing Colin Bridgerton, one of the main characters in the popular historical romantic series “Bridgerton”, which also stars Nicola Coughlan and Jonathan Bailey, and was created by Chris Van Dusen. The series follows the lives of members of the wealthy Bridgerton family, has been airing since 2020, and has won 13 of its 86 award nominations.

Education and early life

Luke and his sister Lauren were raised in Brighton solely by their mother Michelle; their parents divorced sometime in the ‘90s, and their father, whose name hasn’t been disclosed, wasn’t involved in their upbringing. Michelle married her second husband in 2006.

Luke became interested in acting while attending St Nicolas and St Mary’s Primary School, and appeared in a number of plays performed at the school. He was 17 when he made his debut TV series appearance, playing Luke Atwood in 11 episodes of the short drama “The Cut”, which Geoffrey Goodwin and Al Smith created, and which starred Matt Kane, Dermot Martin and Lara Goodison; the series follows teenager Olive and her sister Toni as they’re running a café. Luke’s since been active in the film industry.

He studied at Northbrook College Sussex, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2015; Luke then honed his acting skills at the London School of Musical Theatre.

Roles in TV series

Luke played Brad in the 2011 episode “Promalicious” of the family comedy “Sadie J”, created by Robert Evans, and which starred Georgia Lock, Priyanka Patel and Steve Speirs. It follows the lives of British teenager Sadie and her best friends Kit and Dede, the series aired from 2011 through 2013 and was nominated for a 2011 BAFTA Children’s Award for Best Comedy.

The year 2013 saw Luke play Richard Brackenbury in an episode of the historical drama “Mr Selfridge”, which Andrew Davies created, and which starred Tom Goodman-Hill, Jeremy Piven and Ron Cook. It follows the life of Selfridge’s founder, the series aired from 2013 through 2016 and was nominated for a 2013 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score).

In 2014, Luke portrayed Sam Hern in two episodes of the drama “Doctors”, which has aired over 4,300 episodes since 2000, and today stars Matthew Chambers, Jan Pearson and Adrian Lewis Morgan. It follows the lives of staff at a Birmingham hospital, and the series has won 17 of its 107 award nominations.

Luke’s only other TV series role has been playing the lead character Ben Evans in all the 25 episodes of the 2016 family drama “The Lodge”, which also starred Sophie Simnett and Thomas Doherty, and follows a teenage girl who’s taken over her grandfather’s lodge.

Roles in movies

Luke’s debut film role was playing Michael in the 2014 short horror “Twist and Pulse’s Halloween Thriller”, directed by Chris Brooker, and which starred Ashley Glazebrook, Glen Murphy and Ben Rawlings; it follows three friends who’ve gone camping at their favorite place.

Luke portrayed Billy in the 2018 action science fiction horror “Lake Placid: Legacy”, directed by Darrell Roodt, and which starred Katherine Barrell, Tim Rozon and Sai Bennett. It follows a group of urban explorers who’ve discovered a deadly creature near a lake in upstate Maine, and the film was nominated for a Leo Award for Best Screenwriting in a Television Movie.

Luke’s only other film role has been starring as Ethan in the 2019 short drama “Youth in Bed”, which tells three stories of love and youth.

Other credits

Luke sang the songs “Tell It Like It is (Boys Duet)” and “If You Only Knew (Duet)” in the 2016 movie “The Lodge”, as well as the song “Now That We Are Met” in the 2020 episode “After the Rain” of the series “Bridgerton”.

Some of his recent talk-show appearances have been in “The Morning Show”, “Soccer AM” and “Hollywood First Look”.

Awards and nominations

Luke and his colleagues were nominated for a 2021 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, for “Bridgerton”.

Love life and relationships

Luke doesn’t usually share the details regarding his love life with his fans, but it’s known that he’s until recently been in a relationship with popular British stage actress Jade Davies, who’s perhaps known best for starring in a 2013 production of “Les Miserables”.

Luke and Jade began dating in 2019, and appeared hand-in-hand at many red carpet events. They seemed to be happy together, and some of their fans even speculated that the two might become engaged, however, it was revealed in March 2023 that Luke and Jade had split, and that he had begun using a celebrity dating app.

Luke’s yet to mention other women whom he’s maybe been with, he seems to be unattached as of May 2023, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

Interesting facts and hobbies

Luke’s recently revealed that he has dyslexia.

His grandfather Ken died during the coronavirus pandemic, and Luke and his family then donated over £3,000 to the charity organization Love Your Hospital.

Luke’s an Instagram star, as nearly a million people are following him on the social media network today, while he’s posted 67 pictures, with most of these showing him during his everyday life, whether he’s shooting for his movies, working out at the gym or getting a haircut.

He’s travelled to a number of cities in various European countries and US states, but London’s still his favorite.

Luke’s a lover of animals – dogs and horses are his favorites.

His favorite actor is Tom Hardy, while some of his favorite films include “Venom”, “Warrior” and “The Revenant”.

Luke’s age is 30. He has brown hair and eyes, is 6ft (1.82m) tall and weighs around 180lbs (81kgs).
