Breinne Filene ‘Bre’ Ladd was born on 19 April 1984 in Tucson, Arizona, USA. Her parents Robert Douglass “Bob” and Tammie Elaine Ladd raised her along with an older brother, Joshua. Her paternal grandparents are Dr. Robert M. Ladd and Virginia Ladd. Her father died of natural causes at the age of 53 on 23 January 2013; her mother remarried in 2016 to Ed King and currently lives in Salt Lake, Utah. Her brother is married to Sarah and has four children, Kirin, Hunter, Aspen, and Marley.

Education and Volleyball Career

She matriculated from Canyon del Oro High School in 2001 with honors, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Community and Public Health, a 2-year course, in 2003 from the University of Arizona. She then took up Nursing.

Bre started playing volleyball in high school, and captained the school’s team for two consecutive years, 2000 and 2001. Her outstanding stats of 146 career blocks, 146 career aces, 971 career kills, and her incredible record-holding 21 kills in a match, led her to receive many individual playing awards – most notable were the Gatorade National High School Volleyball Player of the Year in 2001, Tucson Citizen, and the Arizona 5A MVP in 2001, which was extra special since it was voted on by the coaches.

She was the top ranked volleyball player recruit after high school graduation, and topped the Fab 50 Volleyball Magazine list in 2002. Bre was also tapped to join the US Junior National Team in 2001, and competed at the Women’s Junior World Championships in the same year.

College

From 2002 to 2004, she was given the middle blocker position in the Wildcats volleyball team at the University of Arizona. Her teammates were the equally good Jennifer Abernathy and Kim Glass. She shattered records as a freshman for most blocks averaging 1.09 and holds the record with 124 blocks. Bre was always included in the All PAC-10 selection from her freshman year up to her last year at the university.

Personal Life, husband Luke Walton

She married Luke Walton after dating for seven years – she met him in 2002 at the University of Arizona. Nothing sparked during the first meeting, but they re-acquainted in 2005 and started dating. They became engaged in 2012 after he proposed to her on Christmas Eve, cleverly putting the ring in a bigger box so that she would not have any idea. She said, ‘He put a jewelry box inside of a really big box, and I assumed he’d gotten me the earrings I’d asked for. Basketball Career

Scandal

On 22 April 2019, Bre’s blissful marriage was shaken when Kelli Tennant, a former sports anchor, accused her husband of sexual assault. Kelli and Luke worked briefly together in Spectrum Sports Net when Luke was hired to join the broadcasting team in 2013. When Kelli was writing a book, he was asked to write a foreword on it, and allegedly, when she dropped a copy of the published book in his hotel room in Santa Monica, California, the assault happened. Luke denied the accusations but admitted that they met briefly in the hotel lobby. Even the Sacramento Kings team and the NBA launched their own investigation only to find out that there wasn’t sufficient evidence to the claim.

Her husband’s lawyer called Kelli an opportunist. The case was dropped in December 2019 as the accuser didn’t want to participate in the investigation. All through the investigation Bre stood by her husband, and declined all interview requests by the media.
