Who is Renée Elise Goldsberry?

American actress and singer Renée Elise Goldsberry was born in San Jose, California USA, on 2 January 1971, making Capricorn her zodiac sign. She’s perhaps known best for originating the role of Angelica Schuyler in the Broadway play “Hamilton”, although she’s also popular for her career on TV, especially for playing Evangeline Williamson in 269 episodes (1999-2007) of the soap opera “One Life to Live”. Michael Easton and Erika Slezak starred in the drama, which was created by Agnes Nixon, and follows the lives of three families from the fictional city of Llanview in Pennsylvania; the series aired from 1968 through 2013 and won 95 of its 519 award nominations.

Education and early life

Renée was raised in Houston, Texas as she and her family moved there not long after she was born; her father worked in the automotive industry, and her mother Betty Saunders was an industrial psychologist. Renée has three brothers, but not many details about them or her parents have been disclosed, as Renée respects their privacy.

She was enrolled at an acting camp when she was eight, because her younger brother was very shy and their mother chose to enroll them together. Renée studied at Cranbrook Kingswood School, from which she matriculated in 1989, and she continued her education at Carnegie Mellon University, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1993.

Renée then attended the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, from which she graduated with a Master’s degree in 1997.

Renée’s debut TV series role was playing Ikette in three episodes of the 1999 fantasy comedy “Ally”, and the following years saw her appear in an episode of various series, such as the romantic drama “Providence”, the drama “Any Day Now”, and the comedy “That ‘80s Show”.

From 1997 through 2002, she portrayed Singer in 44 episodes of the popular fantasy comedy “Ally McBeal”, which starred Greg Germann, Calista Flockhart and Jane Krakowski, and was created by David E. Kelley. It follows the life of attorney Ally, and the series won 43 of its 158 award nominations. The remainder of the 2000s saw Renée appear in an episode of the crime mystery “Life on Mars”, the comedy “The Return of Jezebel James”, and another comedy “Royal Pains”.

From 2010 through 2016, she played Geneva Pine in 23 episodes of the crime mystery “The Good Wife”, which starred Chris Noth and Julianna Margulies, and was created by Robert and Michelle King. It follows a woman who has to provide for her family now that her husband’s behind bars, and the series won 31 of its 245 award nominations.

Renée’s three most recent TV series roles have been in 16 episodes of the 2021 musical comedy “Girls5eva”, five episodes of the 2022 action adventure comedy “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law”, and 19 episodes of the 2023 animated adventure comedy “Eureka!” (voice role).

Renée’s three most recent film roles have been in the 2020 animated action adventure “Dragons: Rescue Riders: Secrets of the Songwing” (voice role), the 2021 biographical comedy “tick, tick… BOOM!”, and the 2022 romantic drama “Anything’s Possible”.

Renée voiced Matrina Sedik in the 2001 video game “Star Trek: Away Team”.

She and American lawyer Alexis Johnson exchanged vows in a private ceremony on 8 December 2002, attended by more than 200 of their friends and family members. Renée gave birth to their son Benjamin Johnson on 5 May 2009, and the two adopted their second child in 2014, a girl named Brielle (born on 15 February 2013).

Renée’s yet to speak of other men whom she’s perhaps dated, she’s married to Alexis Johnson as of May 2023, and they have two children together, one adopted.

Renée’s popular on Instagram, and is today followed by over 630,000 people on the social media network, on which she’s posted close to 700 pictures and videos; most of these show her performing in theatre plays, while she’s singing, spending time with her husband and doing yoga in others.

She loves summer, mostly because she enjoys sun tanning at the beach.

Renée’s taking good care of her mental health, as she does yoga and meditates on a daily basis; she’s also physically quite active, as she goes running nearly every morning, and occasionally works out at the gym.
